The Lyrics

Well baby- there you stand
staring at the phone in your hand
Oh my god you can't believe
It's happenin again
The mergers done and the crunch has come
And it looks like the end

And you're back out on the street
And you're tryin to remember
How do you start out over
You don't know if you can
You don't care much for that network lunch
But you must have a plan

You never thought they'd let you go
This far down the line
I know what's been on your mind
You're afraid it's all been wasted time

It's hit you hard now you're really hurtin'
It's so unfair it makes you mad
You can hear the sound of bridges burnin
No no no how could they treat you so bad?

So you live from day to day
And you dream about tomorrow
And the hours go by like minutes
And the shadows come to stay
So you take a little something
To make them go away

And you could do so many things baby
If you can stop your mind
From wondering what you've left behind
And from worrying about this wasted time

Another job has come and gone
and the years keep rushin on
I remember how you you always wanted
To try to make it on your own
Well sometimes a shock is what you need
To really get you goin'

So you can get on with your life baby
I know it'll work out fine
And maybe one day you will find
That it wasn't really wasted time

Great job again Martha! As others often do here-the "funny 5" was for your ability to stir up emotions equally strong,as funny, maybe stronger-in a thought provoking way.Well done! TC

Martha - This is really well written! Poetry, I would actually have to say. I can certainly relate to what you've said here. I've spoken to most of the people still there where I used to work (they are all being made "redundant" by the end of June this year, it's being done incrementally) and I'm glad I'm "Already Gone" to borrow another Eagle's song title. It used to be a really up-beat, fun place to work and now they are just, to borrow a basketball analogy, "dribbling out the clock" until the end. No future there...I'm just as happy outta there. Kicking back for a while and then I can move on with my life. I'm not particular worried, I've got money saved up, no debt, not responsible for anyone's else's well-being, and reasonably low living expenses (by L.A. standards), so there's not really any pressure at this point. You know, it's a shame this only has 2 Votes so far. This work deserves much better. HEY folks, give this a read, particularly if you, a friend or loved one has been "down-sized", "laid-off", or otherwise "made redundant" (that's a great term, love thos Brits!). It will give you some food for thought.

Paul Thank you so much for your kind remarks. I do hope that everyrthing works out for you. I have been through it as well but a few years back.. was lucky to obtain a post in a university after working in the financial markets as a regulator and then for a firm that sold futures trading systems The company that I worked or was taken over by Sunguard a big US software house..the whole section was made redundant.. I really like singing this one though its a great tune! especially the bridge!
