The Lyrics

*SPOILER ALERT! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU HAVE READ ALL THREE BOOKS IN THE HUNGER GAMES SERIES!* A Parody in the view of Katniss Everdeen looking back on the events of the three books (well, it's almost entirely about the events of the first but the second and third are covered briefly in the final verses). This is a parody of the full version of the song and here is a link Don McLean - American Pie (Full Version)
A long long time ago
I can still remember
The expression that was on my face
When my sister had been chosen
It was like time had been frozen
And I knew I’d have to take her place

I was known as the girl on fire
Because of my flaming attire
Cinna was a genius
I just hope that he’d seen this

I can’t remember if I cried
When I was in the tree trying to hide
And I saw the faces in the sky
The day the first ones died

So bye bye, guys from district nine
District sevens went to heaven
With a guy from district five
And I was just sat there thinking how lucky am I
Thinking at least today I didn’t die
At least today I didn’t die

Then the girl from district eight
Lit a fire and hence became live bait
While I’m in the tree above
But what’s Peeta doing with them
If he stays, to death he’ll be condemned
Isn’t he supposed to show me some love

Even though I’m not in love with him
We’ve got to obey the viewers’ every whim
So they’ll send things like food
All the while I’m being pursued

After four long days of the viewers’ thrift
I got some burns and my first sponsor gift
There were no more deaths until the fifth
That was when two more died
So now I’m singing
Bye bye let the angels fly
But whatever I will never
Ever forget you guys
When I remember there’ll be tears in my eyes
I’m thinking, why did they all have to die, why did they all have to die

Then on day six I had horrid dreams
When I woke, Rue and I made a team
But that’s not how it’ll always be
And then a plan began to formulate
So I destroyed the food they hadn’t ate
This led to the death of district three

Oh but once I had got back to Rue
Marvel grabbed his spear and he threw
I quickly shot him dead
And I was sent some bread
Then apparently the rules had changed
I found Peeta a bit deranged
And then our first kiss was exchanged
Not long since Rue had died

Now I’m singing
Bye bye let the angels fly
But whatever I will never
Ever forget you guys
When I remember there’ll be tears in my eyes
I’m thinking, why did they all have to die, why did they all have to die

It’s the twelfth day, Peeta’s still in a bad way
I can’t keep the injury at bay
He’s deteriorating fast
But each time I tried to ask
To get him what he needed, I couldn’t pass
But then Haymitch sent me a sleeping draught

Clove was there with a knife in my face
Thresh killed her and left without a trace

We stayed in and wrapped up warm
Because outside there was a storm
The amount of kissing had increased
Because of the storm our hunting ceased
Hence Haymitch sent us a huge feast
The day that Thresh had died

So now I’m singing
Bye bye let the angels fly
But whatever I will never
Ever forget you guys
When I remember there’ll be tears in my eyes
I’m thinking, why did they all have to die,
why did they all have to die

Oh the storm looked like it wouldn’t stop
And Foxface died eating Nightlock
Now there was just one tribute left
The next day Muttations were chasing us
We climbed up away from the Mutts
But Cato fell to his should be death

Oh but the next day he hadn’t died
So to help I let my arrow glide

A voice then butted in
And said only one could win
So killing ourselves was the only way
Much to the gamemakers dismay
Hence a voice said we both won anyway
The day that Cato died

So I’m singing
Bye bye let the angels fly
But whatever I will never
Ever forget you guys
When I remember there’ll be tears in my eyes
Thinking, why did they all have to die,
why did they all have to die

Little did I know I’d go back in
The quarter quell was about to begin
When Cinna was killed and taken away
Three days later we started to rebel
In district thirteen we would dwell
Then I became known as the mockingjay

I found out district twelve was no more
On President Snow I waged war
He will soon have to be killed
But when he died I was less than thrilled
'Cause the little girl I loved most
My sister, got turned into a ghost
It leaves a small lump in my throat
To think that Prim is dead

Now I’m singing
Bye bye let the angels fly
But whatever I will never
Ever forget you guys
When I remember there’ll be tears in my eyes
I’m thinking, why did they all have to die, why did they all have to die

Now I’m singing
Bye bye let the angels fly
But whatever I will never
Ever forget you guys
When I remember there’ll be tears in my eyes
Thinking, why did they all have to die

I've seen two "Hunger Games" movies. Really sicko stuff. Wonder how they are going to work Hoffman's critical part into the third film. I have this vision of the girl shoving the Donald Southerland character off his balcony for a fifty-foot fall onto a solid marble floor. It would make for a happy ending.
