The Lyrics

WHEW! This parody took me a long time to complete! Now, I have joined the ranks of those who parodied this classic. I don't know who said it, but somebody said that parodying this song was like a parodier's dissertation. In that case, here's my dissertation, Professor ChuckyG! This parody is a memorial to the life & times of Steve Irwin, a.k.a. "The Crocodile Hunter". He was a great man, and he did much for the environment & wildlife of this planet, and we'll miss him!
A long, long time ago,
I can still remember how
That guy used to love crocodiles.
He used to have this TV show,
It aired from L.A. to Moscow,
And it made me really happy for a while.
But then one day, I just shivered
With the news my mom delivered.
Bad news on the doorstep,
But I just took one more step.
I checked to see if this was true,
And it was true as the ocean blue
It was so sad, many people cried
The day Steve Irwin died.(1)

So bye, bye to the croc hunter guy,
Loved by millions, maybe billions, now those millions will cry.
And them good ol’ boys eatin’ turkey on rye(2)
Said they didn’t think that this soon he’d die.
Didn’t think that this soon he’d die.

He was born in Essendon,
But he moved to Queensland early on,
His parents started a zoo.
When he was six, he got a snake
When he was nine, he did partake
In handling other reptiles too.
His father taught him to wrestle crocs,
And I tell you man, that really rocks,
But don’t try it at home,
Or they might bite off your dome.
When he graduated, he moved up north,
And he was all set from that day forth,
He volunteered to help the crocs,(3)
The years before he died.
Now we’re singin’:

Bye, bye to the croc hunter guy,
Loved by millions, maybe billions, now those millions will cry.
And them good ol’ boys eatin’ turkey on rye
Said they didn’t think that this soon he’d die.
Didn’t think that this soon he’d die.

In the year of 1992,
He took control of the family zoo,
And appeared on TV that year.
That year, he also met his future wife,
The two married, and it changed his life,
And the two held each other dear.
And while they were on their honeymoon,
Footage was shot of what would soon
Be the first episode
Of his own TV show.
It first showed in Australia,
And made it to America,
He started his own foundation(4)
The years before he died.
Now we’re singin’:

Bye, bye to the croc hunter guy,
Loved by millions, maybe billions, now those millions will cry.
And them good ol’ boys eatin’ turkey on rye
Said they didn’t think that this soon he’d die.
Didn’t think that this soon he’d die.

They awarded him a medal for his work,
Man, I tell you, that guy wasn’t a jerk,
He really cared ‘bout animals.
A conservationist,
I say, this guy will be sorely missed,
He was firmly against poaching illegal.
They called him a modern-day Noah,
He was cheered on from Krakatoa,
We all got up to dance,
Because he gave a fightin’ chance
To a lot of endangered species,
Both on the land and in the seas,
He made a solid legacy.(5)
The years before he died.
Now we’re singin’:

Bye, bye to the croc hunter guy,
Loved by millions, maybe billions, now those millions will cry.
And them good ol’ boys eatin’ turkey on rye
Said they didn’t think that this soon he’d die.
Didn’t think that this soon he’d die.

He ran into controversy
Once when he was feeding Murray
With his infant son in his hands.
And the media was all over it,
Just like a big group of parrots,
But he apologized per their demands.
The government made a new law:
No kids are allowed anymore
In the croc enclosures,
Or they’ll be in danger.
And thus, they filmed this special episode
In which to the people they told
What really happened that very day(6)
The years before he died.

But nowadays, we sing the blues
As we lament the unhappy news,
Because Steve Irwin has passed away.
We read about the funeral,
And all of us thought it pitiful
That the croc hunter had to go out this way.
And in the streets, the people cried,
Because the guy they all loved had died.
Not a word was spoken,
The people’s hearts were broken
Because the guy they admired most
Was stabbed by a stingray, now he’s toast.
We’re still here and we mourn his ghost(7)
We pray he rests in peace.
So let us sing now:

Bye, bye to the croc hunter guy,
Loved by millions, maybe billions, now those millions will cry.
And them good ol’ boys eatin’ turkey on rye
Said they didn’t think that this soon he’d die.
Didn’t think that this soon he’d die.
(Everyone, sing it with me!)

Bye, bye to the croc hunter guy,
Loved by millions, maybe billions, now those millions will cry.
And them good ol’ boys eatin’ turkey on rye
Said they didn’t think that this soon he’d die.
Section notes:

1-It was in early September 2006 when my mom told me about this. I decided to check to see if it was true, and unfortunately, it was.
2-The good ol' boys eating turkey sandwiches on rye is a metaphor for how shocked the people were at this news
3-Essendon is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The Irwins moved to Queensland in 1970. His parents founded the Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park, and Steve got a 12-foot scrub python at age 6. At age 9, he learned to handle other reptiles & wrestle crocodiles under his dad's supervision. After graduating high school, Steve moved to northern Queensland & became a crocodile trapper.
4-In 1992, he expanded his family's zoo (now the Australia Zoo) & met his future wife, Terri Raines, there. They soon got married & the footage from their croc-trapping honeymoon became the 1st episode of The Crocodile Hunter. It first aired on Austrailian TV in 1996 & on American TV the next year. He also started the group Wildlife Warriors.
5-In 2001, Irwin was awarded the Centenary Medal for his "service to global conservation and to Australian tourism". He was a staunch opponent of poaching, also.
6-Murray was a saltwater crocodile that Irwin was feeding while he had his infant son in his other arm. This caused great controversy, and he apologized for it. As a result, the Queensland government passed a law saying that no children or untrained adults could be in crocodile enclosures. To explain this and a couple of other incidents, they filmed a special episode of The Crocodile Hunter called "Confessions of the Crocodile Hunter", which explained what really happened.
7-This section is a general mourning of Steve Irwin.
Well, that's it. Rest in peace, Steve Irwin. On another note, I know this sounds crazy, but I think Steve Irwin's death was a terrorist plot & that the stingray was trained to kill him. BIN LADEN, IF I EVER GET MY HANDS ON YOU, YOU'RE GOING DOWN, PUNK!!!!!!!!!
