The Lyrics

NOTE: This is a re-posting of a parody that I put up here a few months ago. Parents of one of the servicemen I originally listed using the L.A. Times information objected to his name being included so I pulled the original parody. The pre-comments no longer include that man's name. I also added the hometown of one of the other men after a commenter gave me that information, which I was also able to confirm separately later. I'd like to thank them for letting me know. I will be reconstructing the comments thread that existed on the original incrementally over time, showing the original posting date of the comment as well. It will take a while to do that because it was rather lengthy. The Los Angeles Times now publishes the names, age, hometown, rank, DOD and circumstance of death of American Military Personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan in the last week. Below are the names, ages, hometowns and DOD's of those listed Sunday, 11/30/03. The list had 16 names: Phillip R. Albert, 41, Terryville CT, 11/23/03, 11/22, Gary B. Coleman, 24, Pikeville KY, 11/21, David J. Goldberg, 20, Layton UT, 11/26, William J. Kerwood, 37, Houston MO, 11/23, Joseph L. Lister, 22, Pleasanton KS, 11/20, Christopher G. Nason, Los Angeles, CA, 11/23, Steven Plumhoff, 33, Neshanic Station NJ, 11/23, Eddie E. Menyweather, 35, Los Angeles CA, 11/23, Darrell L. Smith, 28, Otwell IN, 11/23, Thomas A. Walkup, Jr., 25, Milville NJ, 11/23, Howard A. Walters, 33, Port Huron MI, 11/23, Jerry L. Wilson, 45, Thomson GA, 11/23, George A. Wood, 33, New York NY, 11/20, Rel Allen Ravago, IV, 21, Glendale CA, 11/23, Genaro Acosta, 26, Fair Oaks CA, 11/11. NOTE: I have updated a couple of lyrics since I originally referenced "Next Year" and the election is now "This Year".
No weapons of Mass Destruction
There was no threat to our home
November I see this coming
It's time for George to go.

Gotta get down to it
this war is bogging us down
Our kids should never had to go
What if your son was a soldier
there dead on the ground?
How can Bush run when we know?

(Instrumental break)

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la

Gotta get down to it
this war is dragging us down
Our kids should never had to go
What if your son was a soldier
there dead on the ground?
How can Bush win when we know?

No weapons of Mass Destruction
There was no threat to our home
This year we should see this coming
It's time for George to go.
(in background - repeat to fade) It's time for George to go.

(Lead singer - anguished, angry) Lies...lies...lies..., how, how many more?
Lies...lies...lies...lies... lies...lies...lies...lies... (to fade)
ADDITIONAL NOTE: I believe the number of U.S. Service Personnel who have died in this conflict is now around 900. My question: How many more?

Looks like Frankie's been drinking the Bush Kool-Aid. Good job, Paul.

Hey Frankie, RELAX and go to Hollywood, why dontcha.

Wow - Frankie uses the F-bomb even more than I do, so I'm guessing her comment will be deleted soon. Perhaps if she spent less time chatting with Your Nursed Whitemale and more time reading the news, she'd know that Iraq has never had "neculear weapons." But it sure has been fun tearing the place apart looking for them.

Oh, btw, great job Paul! I was laughing so hard at Dick Cheney that I forgot to comment on the song!

Something Bush does NOT want to see: It's the night Kerry accepts the nomination, and the death toll in Iraq is nine hundred and eleven. That's 911. And how soon before Bush has his own "Kent State." If Ranger fans think "Potvin sucks," wait until there's a real massacre outside Madison Square Garden.

Thanks, all! I guess someone named "Frankie" went Repulican-ballistic over this one. I guess their comment was somewhat "expletively explicit" But I stand by what I say, just like when I posted the earlier version back in November. Nothing I said has been shown to be inaccurate, in fact, quite the opposite from my point of view.

oh, i see a certain 'comment' has been deleted; i wonder why!!! *smiles smugly

I never forgave Mr. Tony Blair for siding with Bush and sending many to die on this sie of the water too. Well done!

Nice work, Paul! Btw, one of my fav scenes in Moore's F 9/11 is with MM, accompanied by a uniformed Marine Sgt, stopping congressmen to ask them if they would encourage their kid(s) to sign up for service in Iraq. (The Sgt, of course, was the only known active soldier serving in Iraq whose parent is currently serving in congress.) As for the war, itself, good news for Haliburton, et al, bad news for the rest of the world. 5s, btw, well done.

Ted/pickle/Rod W - Thanks! - pickle, I was originally surprised Blair fell in behind Dubyah so easily. Wonder if he really knew who he was 'bunking' with? Rod, haven't seen it yet, but my Dad (age 89) said he would like to so I said I'd go with him whenever he wanted to check it out. Probably sometime next week, I'd imagine.

Paul, you went way beyond the call of duty in taking this down and resubmitting it. Good job.
Paul Robinson - July 06, 2004 - Report this comment
Spaff, Thanks. Well, I didn't particularly want this piece to be a continuing burr in the side of the parents and loved ones of that young man. I've been intending to re-post the original comments incrementally but now I'm wondering whether that is really needed. There was quite a bit of political discussion there, but the points and positions made by both sides are not exactly unique now. I still might, but not right away...
