The Lyrics

I was hangin' round a bank in town
Thought of robbin' it with the Kid
And before you know it that's what we did, so we were rollin'

Then the Kid and me and his schoolmarm gal
Went to hide in a hole in the wall
And in no time we spent all that we'd stolen

We are trail dust, we are varmints
We are way past the point of charmin'
And we're got to get a job
Other than farmin'

Then we held up the Northern Flyer
For a hefty payroll score
And we rapped upon the door for to unload it

But Woodcock wouldn't let us in
I said Woodcock wouldn't be our friend
So a fuse would soon begin to explode it

We are scofflaws, we make choices
We employ armamental forces
And we get from place to place
Riding on horses

(GUITAR SOLO)

We are card cheats, we are owlhoots
We have aces inside of our boots
And we never saw a star
We couldn't out-scoot

By the time we blew up Woodcock
We had half a million gold
And all the bills they were rolled in denominations

Then it seems I saw another black train
Driving not too far behind
Filled with Pinkertons inclined to our negation

We are lowdown, double crossers
All our gains are another's losses
And we're got to stay one step
Ahead of the posses

The "Woodcock" in the title is a reference to a character in the movie"Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid"; this being the hapless agent of "E.L. Harriman of the Union Pacific Railroad" who twice tries to stop Butch from robbing the safe and gets blown up twice
