The Lyrics

Great western features starring Randolph Scott
And after midnight, horror flicks we got
Summer nights it was the place to go
We loved that Good Old Drive In Show..

At intermission lotsa' tasty food
Back seat lovin' when we were in the mood
Huge bags of popcorn, and soft drinks would flow
We loved that Good Old Drive In Show..

Some Tom and Jerry cartoons, doncha' know
Shorts with Stooges, Larry, Curly, and Moe
Hung the speaker on a side window
Loved that Good Old Drive In Show

On those "Buck Nights" we'd just jam the car
Pack a cooler, pour some booze in a jar
When films were bad, we had the moon and the stars,
Fun at that Good Old Drive In Show..

Sometimes the best scene was right next doh'
Windows all steamy and their horn might blow
Hasn't really been that long ago...
Loved that Good Old Drive In Show..

Call us old dinosaurs, now, if you will
But, Baby Boomers seeked a safer thrill
No need to puff weed, or to pop a pill,
We had that Good Old Drive In Show..

Sure miss that Good Old Drive In Show
A "Dusk To Dawn"... ran six in a row
Stayed until morning, got a cup of joe
We loved that Good Old Drive In Show

We loved that Good Old Drive In Show

i LOVE this....makes me all nostalgic...my favorite drive-in moment ?.....i'm a kid and at the drive-in with my big sister....as we're sitting there, the car starts slowly rolling backwards...my sister snaps into action...she rolls down the window and screams at the car nest to us "HEY....YOUR CAR IS ROLLING FORWARD ! "...i miss drive-ins, alright

alvin, you are a sick puppy -- going to drive-ins with your SISTER? sick.... (lol)

AFW, did you go in a Skylark? Yeah, you're bringing back loads of memories -- "Horn might blow' lol... all the good times we sought --- er, seeked. btw, here in the warmth of Turtleville, we had an air-conditioned drive-in. Seriously -- a little hose on the speaker stand -- you rolled the window down slighty, stuck the hose in, and it blew cool air. (insert joke here). Then land values got too high -- drive-in becomes shopping center or apartments. 555 greasy shrimp rolls.

Thanks, Peter, Ann, alvin...good story, I remember that...it did give that illusion..and thanks, TT..no, I have a confession to make..I never owned a Skylark..owned a lot of other GM cars, though...are you serious about that air cond. hose?...

As serious as the shell on my back... See, for example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-in_theatre, look in "History" for the air-conditioning reference. (I didn't know about the heaters, and don't remember mice being a problem. It was a last-ditch effort to save th e drive-in (the windows kinda got steamed up anyway, if ya know what I mean).... Daylight Savings Time probably started the slide, then the price of land.

AFW - Love Seger, loved the drive-ins and simply loved this parody. No "R" rating for this one, as in retarded. I'd think more of a "PG" as in what your girl may get if you are not careful in that back seat - horn blowin' not a problem with the "PG" rating - it's actually the back seat jockying that give this movie, er parody the "PG" rating. Fun parody. Roper and Ebert gives 5 thumbs up.

TT....We didn't get AC at drive ins around here, in Ohio..had to sweat it out, so to speak...but, in a last ditch, dying death rattle swan song effort, some remained open thru winter months....they'd furnish hang in heaters...Don't believe DST was an eliminating factor in these parts, land development was...and of course, cable tv, movie channels, and that, now dinosaured monster, the VCR , which, of course, spawned the real "Drive In Whacker"..the movie rental business...who was gonna' be crazy enough to sit in a cramped Chevy for four hours, when they could have living room comfort and also, title choice....There's still two die hard outdoor flicker fortresses open in this area...but, I don't imagine they experience any ramp jams..probably, only a few nostalgic nuts, chronic smoke junkies, (both kinds) and teens, who are curious to see what Gram and Gramps were always mumbling about..

Oh, and thanks, Guy...and thanks for the movie rating..glad it wasn't an R or X...five thumbs, eh? I always suspected those guys had more than two..That'd be great for extreme hitchhiking..

With DST, it didn't get dark in the summer till almost 9pm. They couldn't start much before 8:30, which was later than a lot of people wanted to start the evening. Also could do only two shows, versus three in winter, (A, B-flic, A.) Also meant it stayed hotter "later" in the eve.... We also had mosquitoes (A/C helped that).... There was an empty drive-in (minus screen) in this area, still with the ramps and lanes visible, though overgrown, until about two years ago, when they finally started building offices....... The drive-in still has a "feature" (so to speak) that cable, vcr, dvd, etc. dont: Lets the teens get away from the parents :-)
