Parody Song Title:

"Dixie Square Mall"

Parody Written by:

Darrell Wilhelm

This song is all about Harvey, Illinois' infamous abandoned Dixie Square Mall, which is known for being the home of the mall scene from "The Blues Brothers" ("This mall's got everything!") as well as for being a smelly, ugly, half-demolished, asbestos-filled armpit. I have never been west of Hines, Oregon, but I know a lot about Dixie Square because I have seen bits and pieces of "The Blues Brothers" and because I am a frequent visitor of Dixiesquare.com and Deadmalls.com.
There was a place, once upon a time, called the Dixie Square Mall
They had a JC Penney, a Jewel store and a discotheque
All of Harvey loved it until '78, when they closed it
'Cause Dixie Square was run down by a bigger, better rival
Dixie Square Mall

After they closed it down, Warner Bros. took over
Inside the mall, they filmed "The Blues Brothers"
Dodge Monaco and cop cars driving all around
In one door and out the other, Warner Bros made a mess out of Dixie Square Mall, a place called Dixie Square Mall
They called it Dixie Square Mall

Oh Dixie Square was a great place from '62 to 1978
That mall had everything and everything that one could think of
Dixie Square Mall, Dixie Square Mall

Then one day, an airline-food company moved into
The old Monkey Wards
A man with money built his warehouse, and it was OK
Until the demolition crew tore Monkey Wards down
They tore it down with no per-miss-ion
And since that day, it ain't been the same
'Cause there are lawsuits flyin' around
At Dixie Square Mall

Oh, Dixie Square was such a great thing in the Seventies
Open from morning until way after dark
At Dixie Square Mall
Dixie Square Mall
At Dixie Square Mall
Dixie Square Mall
(fade to wrecking ball crushing concrete)

In the introduction, "west" of Hines, Oregon should be "east". Just to let anyone who has not been there know, the Steens Mountains are gorgeous.
