Song Parodies -> Amnesty
| Original Song Title: | "Honesty" |
| Original Performer: | Billy Joel |
| Parody Song Title: | "Amnesty" |
| Parody Written by: | John Jenkins |
In 2003, Malcolm Higgins did a parody entitled “Amnesty” of the same original song. But his parody was about forgiveness for those who illegally download songs from the Internet, not those who illegally upload themselves into the U.S. economy.
If you seek cheap laborers,
They aren’t hard to find.
They are on street corners everywhere.
But if they must be citizens
Whose language skills are refined,
You might find the cost just too much to bear.
Amnesty is such a useful tool,
We should overlook its flaws.
Amnesty is why Wall Street will fool
The Senate into passing laws.
Ted can always find some friends
On both sides of the aisle
When he wants to trade some influence.
But as they dispense their sound bites
And show their pretty smiles,
Fifty more aliens hop the fence.
Amnesty is such a funny bill
Born of slapstick politics.
Amnesty’s been making voters ill
Since it failed in ’eighty-six.
They can say ‘Z visa,’
They can ‘legalize,’
But they won’t say the ‘A word,’
‘Though they know it applies.
Congress tries to comfort you
With promises and lies.
We know (we know), we know, whoa-whoa-whoa
Yes, they charge a hefty fee
To legitimize
Aliens who broke laws to come here.
But it is still dishonesty
When politicians disguise
Certain words they don’t want us to hear.
Amnesty is the most lonely word
Everyone tries to avoid.
Amnesty in Congress is not heard,
It’s a linguistic hemorrhoid.
They aren’t hard to find.
They are on street corners everywhere.
But if they must be citizens
Whose language skills are refined,
You might find the cost just too much to bear.

Pretty good, but I had to dock you a point for your target. It's Bush's bill, yet you blame Ted Kennedy? Hey, I didn't blame Strom Thurmond for NAFTA! If Bush didn't want this thing, it wouldn't even be considered.
Very well written
I'm with AFW on this. 555 Very timely and well crafted> "Linguistic hemorrhoid" was a great ending.
