Parody Song Title:

"HMC (a tribute to my college)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

This song was written mainly for consumption within the Harvey Mudd bubble, but I decided to put it up here anyway. I've included a MuddSpeak dictionary below (potentially more interesting than the parody, for wordlovers like myself ;-)):
HMC: acronym for Harvey Mudd College. It may not sound like much, but our biggest rivals are MIT and CalTech.
ITR: by itself, stands for Ineligible to Reregister (or unofficially, Invited to Retire). Usually slang, however, for ITR *Games*, which is an East Dorm tradition involving duct tape daggers and running around underground tunnels in the middle of the night.
Crack: generally, any activity which is as addictive as crack. In practice, almost always refers to computer games.
MuddHole: pizza place on campus - has a DDR machine and pool table, useful tools for procrastination
LAC: Linde Activities Center, pronounced phonetically. Has pool tables, air hockey and foozball.
Harvard Med School: where everyone who doesn't know the school thinks we go when we tell them the name.
The Ratio: always refers to the ratio of guys/girls. Supposedly always hovers between e/1 and pi/1.
Prefrosh: freshmen are called frosh. People who aren't yet freshmen, then, are logically called prefrosh. This includes both prospective students who are applying to go to Mudd and seniors who have already gotten in but aren't enrolled yet.
The cannon: the best prank ever. See
The dome: also a great prank. Originally on a Mudd-only website, I've rehosted it here:
bubble: from the (un)official MuddSpeak dictionary, "The Bubble encloses HarveyMuddCollege, and to a lesser extent the other ClaremontColleges. It separates the colleges from the RealWorld. When HarveyMudders gather in a large enough group OutsideTheBubble, they can extend the bubble to enclose themselves."

Have fun!
What is it about you?
You're small
You're bright
You're tough
I went years without you
Now I
Can't get
Enough of teachers who answer you back,
In class at any time,
Even the bureaucrats answer me back,
Oh, brother, I know I'm
Too busy
Too crazy
The work's
It hurts
My brain
But still
It's HMC

The gaming at midnight -
And crack.
The procrastination
The MuddHole and
The LAC.

What other college in all of the states
Has a teacher quite like Gu?
No other college in all the five Cs
Is half the geek of you.

Your base are all taken
All work
No rest
You're still
The best
Amen For HMC

Perpetual gaming
On console and
With cards
It's not Harvard Med school.
But damn, it's
Just as hard.

The constant quotage
Of Penny Arcade
And Monty Python too.
Well, yes, the ratio is e/1 -
Hey, girls, we love you
Prefrosh keep applying
By mail
By net
They'll be
In debt
Who cares

Just got here this morning
Already I'm
At home
How awesome is pranking!
The cannon and
The dome!
Go ask alums who just keep flyin' down
The school they loved the best
Though MIT is a lot more renowned
My email comes addressed

Tomorrow an essay
Ain't got no slack
Some crack
Why not,
It's HMC

It's life in a bubble
All work
No rest
You're still
The best
Amen For HMC

Found via my Spring Cleaning thread. I was a "Annie"-fan from way back as a child, so this brings back memories! Cute stuff, even with the private jokes. Thanks! 545.

I'm a high school junior, and I'm going to a Harvey Mudd info session next week. Would you reconmend it to a New York City preppie?

Most definitely. As long as you are prepared to do insane amounts of work, and probably have your grades die your frosh year unless you're extremely brilliant ;-). Note: I really do love the school anyway, or I would have left and gone somewhere easier long before. Hey, if you get in and decide to check the school out, PM me or something. I'd be happy to answer questions, show you around, etc - having prefrosh is always exciting.

Many years ago when I was in high school, I got an HMC tour (I chose to go somewhere else and get a business degree), and I acknowledge that it is an impressive university. So I'm not surprised that someone who goes there writes clever parodies like this one. - May 24, 2004 - Report this comment
Sorry it took me so long to accept your invitation to HMC, neminem. I hope my name's not Mudd. (Bet you've never heard that one before.) I remember the original, and your description and parody are so nice they almost make me want to return to my undergrad days. Almost.

"I hope my name's not Mudd. (Bet you've never heard that one before.)"
Yeah... I was trying to write that parody (that being said random Primus song, My Name is Mud), but it didn't really work too well. By the way, what invitation was this?

I really enjoyed college, not sure if I could write a parody about it though....but you pulled it off very well

Gotta love a tribute to one's alma mater. p.s., Decker where are you in school? - June 16, 2004 - Report this comment
By "invitation to HMC," I meant symbolically, i.e., via this parody. Don't worry, nem, I'm not gonna show up at your dorm with a suitcase. (At least not until next semester.)

(ABC) Well done, but just couldn't get into it...
