Song Parodies -> This Land Is My Land
| Original Song Title: | "This Land Is Your Land" |
| Original Performer: | Woody Guthrie |
| Parody Song Title: | "This Land Is My Land" |
| Parody Written by: | David Pratter |
Please note that the author of this song does not believe in domination or colonizing land at all, he just thought up this song for fun. In reality, he really does believe in freedom and unity, and does not force anyone off his own land nor threaten anyone with violence. He believes in non-violence and does not own any firearms. He would also like to see firearms banned, and everyone on earth getting along in peace and harmony!
Out in the country, far from a highway
There is this land here, and it is my way
Don't ever come here, or you'll be sorry
This land was made just for me
This land is my land, it isn't your land
I got a shotgun, and you don't got none
If you don't get off, I'll blow your head off
This land was made just for me
So keep away now, Don't ruin my day now
My property's private, you cannot buy it
Go find your own land, Just be a lone man
This land was made just for me
This land is my land, it isn't your land
I got a shotgun, and you don't got none
If you don't get off, I'll blow your head off
This land was made just for me
There is this land here, and it is my way
Don't ever come here, or you'll be sorry
This land was made just for me
This land is my land, it isn't your land
I got a shotgun, and you don't got none
If you don't get off, I'll blow your head off
This land was made just for me
So keep away now, Don't ruin my day now
My property's private, you cannot buy it
Go find your own land, Just be a lone man
This land was made just for me
This land is my land, it isn't your land
I got a shotgun, and you don't got none
If you don't get off, I'll blow your head off
This land was made just for me
Again, this song is not to be taken seriously, it was just written for fun! Never would the author of this song really say such phrases to you if you ever met him. He does want to see the world become united as one, and no more war on any nations!

This song is AWFUL Woody Gunthrie would be ashamed of this song. You say it is made for fun, but it is made to mock. Woody Gunthrie wrote this song in February of 1940. He has been honored for a good song, such as this, and it is AWFUL to see you mock it. I reccomend you take it off your site. Sincerly, ~a patriotic american
I agree with Belle; this song is AWFUL GOOD
Wow, memories. As kids, we used to sing this parody. The shotgun chorus, anyway.
When I was in elementary school til about 3rd or 4th grade (in the late 80s) I heard some kids singing that chorus too! Except the last line was "This land was made for me not you." It does bring back memories.
I heard this in the schoolyard in the early Seventies, except that, again, it was "made for me, not you". Doesn't seem to scan as it appears here.
Another random gem I missed first time around.. I love the rhyme "I got a shotgun, and you don't got none"
David, Pretty good. I went "4" across here. The disclaimer is ok here because your version has such a dramatically different sentiment from the original and that one IS a classic anthem that has a lot of meaning to many folks (me included). That said I didn't see anything all that offensive about this parody. Sometimes if you are uncomfortable with the thought that people might get the impression a parody like this reflects your own personal beliefs you can make your pre-comments indicate that they are from a 3rd person character, i.e., "the protagonist" ("protagonist", after all, is the "lead" character, not necessarily a "good guy") or similar reference. I don't think you needed to basically repeat the same disclaim on the end comments, but I can tell you were a bit uneasy about offending. If that was the case then by all means disclaim away rather than step on toes. Pacing came a little short to my eye/ear here in a couple places but not a bad effort.
I thought it was absolutly hilarious
love you
Y'all keep writin' stuff like this, y'hear?
I've heard this before. You didn't make this up. I've done a parody of the same song.... its different tho.
Here's one Arlo sang for me at a Miami park concert....This land is your land, it once was my land..we went and sold you Manhatten Island..you drove our nation to the reservation, this land was stole by you from me! I think Woody would have been proud!
Hey, it was alright. I suppose with the limits of the song, you did what you could. Personally, I found the overemphasis of no offense meant in the top and bottom comments a lot more humorous. This song inspired me to write parodies to popular songs, as well.
HAHAHAHA i never heard anything so funny! hahahahaha i got a shot gun and u don't got one lol Thats Great Great work man
That was great! Hilarious!
"He would also like to see firearms banned" Hasn't given much thought to this comment on the side has he? take a look at the statistic crime rates climb in countrys that have banned guns. Take a look at this NRA report!

I love this song! I forgot about it until I remembered about how funny it was and when I was in the first grade I would always sing it and every time that I got to the part with "I'll blow your head off" my friends started bursting with laughter! THIS IS THE BEST SONG EVER CREATED IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!!1
I love this song it is the best!
I remember this song that I heard when I was in the 5th grade. My bro and his friend always sang that song which choruses I heard before in your parody. They got me singing that song, too! I almost got in trouble for singing that song that one of the teachers in my school got a headache and my teacher decided to let me slide for singing that "dopey" song. I don't think this song was dopey, though. It was funny. Great job on this song!
i remember this song, my friend kept singing this and my head was a knockin' its way to dead man streeet! You should keep making songs like thing! :D
