The Lyrics

This is it--opening night (Friday April 25, 2008)! I'm Fruma-Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof by the Andrean Players at St. Andrew Avellino Church in Flushing, Queens, NY. When we first started learning "Tradition" and they were assigning parts to the "papas", "mamas", "sons', and "daughters", "Mamas and the Papas" jokes started surfacing. One man started singing, "All the cows are brown/And there's lots of hay..." In deference to Amiright's rules, all the parodied lyrics below are mine. If you're in the NYC area, come see our show! You have two weekends! Show closes Sunday, May 4.
All the vests are brown
And the skirts are gray.
We can’t take a walk
On the Sabbath day.
All are heads are warm
Where our hats always stay.
Anatevka dreamin’
Upon a Flushing stage.

Theater in a church:
We learned a dance today.
Oh, no, don’t you fold your hands;
That’s not how Hebrews pray.
You know the milkman loves his kids.
He talks to God all day.
Anatevka dreamin’
Upon a Flushing stage.

(instrumental break)

All the skirts are brown
And the vests are gray.
We can’t take a walk
On the Sabbath day.
Tevye’s wayward daughters
Make Tradition stray.
Anatevka dreamin’
Upon a Flushing stage. (Anatevka dreamin’.)
Upon a Flushing stage. (Anatevka dreamin’.)
Upon a Flushing stage.

Cute! You should do "Monday Monday" as "Sunrise Sunset" next. Mazel tov, 555.

Oy, . . . Tevye, you're so handsome, Sir!

Fun parody, Melanie. So you get to provide a little comedy in Tevya's dream scene? Sorry that I'm 3,000 miles away, but I'm sure you'll do well. Does anybody else think that Johnny D would make a great Tevya?

Good work. I hope your play went well, this really needed the introduction in order to understand, but it was still really good.

(ABC) Fun parody. I get the Fiddler On The Roof reference without the intro...it really could have used a new chorus instead of the repeat, but this was clever.

Agree with Agri's opinion pretty much. The pacing could work, a little fidgety, but workable.

(ABC) nicely done, Melanie....your "All the cows are brown/And there's lots of hay.." at the start got a chuckle - I think you went for matches to the OS over really funny lines in the parody though - made it a sweet read though - 555

(Ages) I got the Fiddler reference as well, and second Agri's comment about the repeating chorus. Well done.

Oh darn... by reading the title, I would have thought this might be about a new teninis player... well-paced, but there was so much that could have been done with the backing vocals, and the humor missed this target. 544
