The Lyrics

Like the Middle East today, the Oklahoma Territory a century ago saw conflict for land and lifestyle. Eventually they chose unity and voted for statehood. This optimistic parody holds out hope, but ends realistically. Seven of the ten original stanzas are at: .I also parodied "cowboy and farmer's wife and daughter", "farmer in a barroom" and "cowboy on his pony" stanzas. Many cast members participated; you can guess who sings which lines in 2006.
The Hebrew and the Muslim should be friends.
Oh, the Muslim and the Hebrew should be friends.
One man must to Allah bow, the other does Yahweh avow;
But that's no reason they can't make amends.

All Semitic tribes should quickly gather,
These eclectic folks should all be pals.
Hebrews prance for the Arabs' daughters,
Arabs glance at the Jewish gals!

I'd like to say a word for Israelis:
They came back here and manufactured hard goods.
They fled back there and built some giant fences,
And built 'em right across our neighborhoods.

We'd like to help downtrodden Palestinians.
If they come by and give you their sob story,
Don't treat them with disdain, tell 'em that you feel their pain;
But be sure that you don't cede them territory!

Hezbollah in the 'hood's a shifty denizen;
Some say The Hague should log its crimes in dockets.
You seldom see 'em thinkin' "win some more room",
Unless somebody else is buyin' rockets.

The Shiite and the Sunni should be friends.
Oh, the Sunni and the Shiite should be friends.
Sunnis say Mohammed's lone; the Shiites twelve Imams enthrone;
Why both cry "treason", no one comprehends.

All of Shem's kindred should click together,
Sons of Abraham should all be pals.
Shiite chants for the Sunni's daughters,
Sunni chants for the Shiite's gals!

There's nothing that's negotiable with bin Laden.
The hills he treads are difficult and stony.
He hides for days on end while claiming Allah to defend.
I'm sure not feelin' sorry he looks bony.

I'd like to listen to what each is prayin',
And learn their creeds, be smart the way I should.
I don't say that I'm better than any one of them;
We'll all be doomed if no one's understood.

Middle Eastern lands are stuck together,
Middle Eastern folks may ne'er be pals.
Just hope they'll learn to live as neighbors,
Peaceful for longer intervals!
