The Lyrics

This is a parody of a famous Beatles tune wot I wrote for Geology students to sing in the bus on their fieldtrips. It tells the tale of a poor greywacke sandstone caught in an orogenic episode.
When I get caught between convergent plates in the next orogeny
And my cementation has recrystallised
If you still want me, I'll be surprised.
When I'm all folded, altered and cleaved.
And all my fold limbs closed
Will you still need me, will you still cleave me
When I'm metamorphosed?

When my clays have all been turned to kyanite
and its not too clear
Where all this will end....
When I'm a granulite
Will we still be friends?

All of my sand grains will be replaced
By augens of quartz
All of my cross bedding and my ripple drift
Will be altered, when I'm a schist
I hope you realise when I'm a gneiss
I'll lose my flutes and loads
Will you still need me
Will you still cleave me
When I'm metamorphosed?

Had one or two minor pacing hiccups, but it's still easy to sing along to... even if I was expecting it to be about insects rather than rocks. Very good indeed, Brian - why not try "Eye of the Tiger" next? After all, it is the theme tune from "Rocky" ;-)

Brian, this is brilliant and original. Superb job. You might have inspired me to do at least one geological-themed parody myself!

Minor pacing flaws, but the topic is original and educational; if only my college geology classes had been taught this way! 4-5-5.

Brian, Are You Related To The Late Bill Cullen? I Have Two Dogs And One Of Them Is Cullen And The Other Is Elmo.

Thanks for the comments guys- what a great site! Green-Bloodied-Hound-Dogs, no relation, as far as I know - I did just take the "Which Muppet Character are You" test and came up with Elmo though ;)
