The Lyrics

This song originally appeared on fanfiction.net but I had to pull it when the site's webmaster elimnated its "Parodies/Spoofs" category.Besides the Beatles, the main inspiration for this song is the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Hey Oil Tanker Phil,
what did ya spill,
Oil Tanker Phil,
Hey Oil Tanker Phil,
what did ya spill,
Oil Tanker Phil...

VERSE 1:They say old Captain Phil,he was a really messed-up dude,
he ran his ship aground and oh,that was so rude,
because he spilled at least a million
tons of OPEC crude...

CHORUS:And the lawyers say...

Hey Oil Tanker Phil,
what did ya spill,
Oil Tanker Phil,
Hey Oil Tanker Phil,
what did ya spill,
Oil Tanker Phil...

VERSE 2:Phil sure had put his crew in such an awful fix,
he had them all running around like lunatics,
the Coast Guard came down on him
like a ton of bricks....

(Repeat chorus)

VERSE 3:Yes,Phil can be excused
if he looks rather grim,
because he know his hopes
of getting off are slim,
the board of inquiry's gonna make sushi out of him...

(Repeat chorus until music fades out)

Chris - Your first line of verse 1 misses pretty badly on pace, and it would have worked if you left the word "really" out. I didn't really get a good word flow out of that and in a song short of variable chorus possibilities that damages the rhythm. Verse 2 SORT of works, but if you changed "had" to "did" and then reworded line 2, oh..."they were all racing 'round like crazy lunatics;" then "Coast Guard came down on him just like a ton of bricks." and I think it really flows and works. Verse 3 is ok. Maybe I'm being a little too picky but I just see much better possibilities for your piece here with a little more polishing of the verse pace and wording.
