The Lyrics

youtube

A tribute to "Gunsmoke"'s famous limping deputy, Chester. Here, he enjoys a rare day off from helping Marshal Dillon keep order on the streets of Dodge City.

Chester's day
Marshal Dillon lets him out to play
Has a limp so he can't run away
Don't try to leave on Chester's day

Sullenly
Fumigates the cell of "Poots" McGee
After Marshal Dillon sets him free
Oh, Chester hates him utterly

Shyly, he will spoon
A saloon girl name of Mae
While she leads him on
Money's gone, on Chester's day

Chester's day
Lunch was such a greasy game souffle'
Rookie chef the cause of wide dismay
That's why we'll heave on Chester's day

Twice, he has a go
At the lonely widow Kay
When he sees her nude
She's a dude, now Chester's gay

Chester's day
Snugly tucked within the jail to stay
Chow he feeds the prisoners from a tray
No pie for Steve, on Chester's day

Mmm, mm, mmm, mm, mmm, mm-mmm

One of our local digital + stations is showing reruns of "Gunsmoke". I'm really looking forward to this episode.

Thanks for the comments! I just rewatched my DVD set of old "Gunsmoke" episodes with Chester and got nostalgic. What a great western that was during its early seasons.

Funny read, Porfle. Not a big Gunsmoke fan here, but your parody explained it well to me (Chester's part, at least). Poor Chester!

Thanks! I may have exaggerated about his servile drudgery a bit but it was funnier that way.

I don't think I ever watched an episode of Gunsmoke... but of course Chester is a pretty funny name, so any parody with a Chester in it is humorous. Don't see too many people naming kids Chester today...

Especially if their last name is Bestertester.

Bestertester, you say! And Rob's security code was MAD...interesting.
