Parody Song Title:

"Fleeing from the Deputy Named Barney Fife!"

Parody Written by:

Porfle Popnecker

The Lyrics

For the deputy named Barney Fife
There will be a watch tonight at city jail
The cousins Pyle will both be there
Otis Campbell if aware, instant fail

Guarding men en route to county lockup
Barney and his helpers will prevail
Lest somehow, they allow them all to escape--!

The celebrated Mr. Fife
And Thelma Lou, his future wife, eat homemade fudge
While watching movies on the tube
Between them Gomer, what a rube, will not budge

Flustered, Barney Fife endures the torture
His frustration ends when movie is done
Not so fast, Gomer's passed right out on the couch--!

A crowd has gathered round to see
While Mr. Fife, the deputy, hauls someone in
As Sheriff Andy mediates
Ten uppercuts precipitate on Barney's chin

Having found himself in full prostration
A single bullet from his pocket comes
And tonight Barney Fife is loading his gun--!

This strikes me as a difficult song to parody. Not necessarily the first stanza; but the second stanza is so unstructured and the melody isn't very strong. That sort of thing throws me at times

Thanks for the comments! Yeah, it's kind of an awkward song to parody, but I think being such a big fan of the subject helped.

Porfle, I have a request: could you PLEASE do a parody of Andy vs those hillbilly people, the Darlings???!!! Or one with Elly Mae (sp?)?

I'll study on it for a spell.

Seems to me I recall one episode where Aunt Bee won a contest and became a snob with her many appliances. It was one of those color episodes. She lost all her friends and the tax man came a-callin'. Now that would be a good one for me :)

Boo, wish I knew the show. Sorry most of this went over my head, but I support it for the soundalikes and the pacing non-the-less. Especially enjoyed the 'tube/rube/fudge/budge' couplet

Brad--arrrgh, the dreaded color episodes! Aunt Bee just got worse and worse! Glen--glad you liked it despite being unfamiliar with the show. If you ever decide to watch it, make sure you stick with the black and white episodes with Barney!

One of my faves was Barney and Floyd held hostage at a cabin by 3 escaped female convicts. One of them called Barney Al, 'cause he reminded her of an old boyfriend. By the end, Floyd too was calling Barney Al. Population 555, for this awesome Mayberry parody!

Thanks--hey, that's one of my favorite episodes, too!
