I think "polythene" was Lennon's way of saying "polyethylene". He was a great musician, but not much of an organic chemist..
It's hard to keep the conceptual continuity going with so short a song. But it worked.
Another short one, which is good here b/c there isn't much to say about Spam, which I recall hearing means Shoulder Pork hAM or something similar. Yuk!
