Song Parodies -> Alewives

Original Song Title:

"Edelweiss"

Original Performer:

Sound of Music

Parody Song Title:

"Alewives"

Parody Written by:

Aisling

I had to jump into this one (but not literally). Back in the 60s, alewives invaded the beaches of Lake Michigan in Chicago. How well I remember the stench.
Alewives
Alewives
In Lake Michigan reeking
Small and white
Noxious blight
On our beach they are leaking.

Rotting dead corpses infest the shore
Best no more go wading

Alewives
Alewives
Putrid fish are invading.

I'm familiar with alewives only from the name of a parkway outside Boston. You've prompted me to fish for info.

Took me awhile to figure out what rotting fish had to do with medieval brewsters...heh heh....

I lived in Chicago for over ten years, so I can relate. BTW, Alewives was a riff in Mystery Science Theater 3000 Episode 801 Revenge of The Creature. Fish were lying on the water, so Tom Servo sang Alewives pretty much like you wrote it.

Nice! Something about such a short/constrained song that appeals to me... and apparently to you, too! In CA, we have the "red tide", some sort of plankton bloom I think and like your's, its a reek-o-rama!
