The Lyrics

Possible Ages of Amiright 2 entry, though I may go with something else. Okay, this OS has been done umpteen times, a few times with this title. And I hereby do it again. OS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juRgawS8ZDo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmRSPJ3_B9k
Heavy darkness, half past ten.
I'm walking home from work again.
Did I hear footsteps softly creeping?
Turn my head, car alarm's beeping.
I see visions of my body in a bag
With a tag.
Was it the sound of violence?

Through shadowed streets I walk alone.
Local winos getting stoned.
Brazen hooker hugs a street lamp.
A homeless vagrant sleeps upon a ramp.
Will my back be stabbed by the slash of a switchblade knife
That ends my life
Because of greed and violence?

Then on the brownstone steps I see
Ten thousand hoodlums--maybe three!
Hoodlums talking about hitting!
Hoodlums talking about kicking!
Hoodlums shouting "Yo!" and "Shove it up your rear!"
Could those jeers
Turn into sounds of violence?

9-1-1 I want to call!
Terror like a shadow falls!
Watch that drifter--he might grab you!
Watch that biker--he might nab you!
A new noise like padded footsteps fell!
(Scared as hell!)
No! Listen--here it comes--the violence!

As I ran I wished and prayed
That the noise would go away,
And a crash gave out its warning!
Braced myself--knew what was coming!
And the bang! and the roll of a garbage can
Scared away an alley cat
Who ran pitter-pat!
Well! So much for the sounds of violence.

That title just popped into my head yesterday. You did a much better job than I could have. Great ending. Gave me a laugh. I could picture the whole scenario in my head.

Even if a repeat, we always like a well done parody. Good ending.

I was sure that I posted a comment on this one. Weird... Anyways I liked it, it's horror but like alternative horror not scary movie horror and that in itself is great.

(Ages) Been there, living in the4 big bad city...interesting stuff, but you used "gave out its warning" which could have used a susbstitution.

(Ages) Ah, the first of the three 'Paranoia' entries in this round (it's fun when you have two options - you don't know who'll pick what!)! Never heard anything by Simon&Garfunkel, so I can't vote for fear of giving an incorrect pacing mark, but this was very well written. Keep it up!

AGES...this is SO me every time I'm walking alone at night, Melanie...I'm a total scaredy cat, and am pretty sure every noise I hear will be my last...only to find myself safe at home after every time. =) Excellent job!

(Ages) First guesses: Detroit, St. Louis or Brooklyn. . .anyway, very eerie use of OS. Played more on paranoia than horror and being one of very few who did, bonus points for that. Very funny, just one line I must point out "Ten thousand hoodlums--maybe three!" 'stalking me' may have worked better than 'maybe three', that one line was iffy, but solid parody overall

I live in Corona, Queens, NY--a couple of miles from where S&G lived in Forest Hills. S&G mentioned Corona in "Me and Julio".

I was close with Brooklyn then

(Ages) Paranoia or horror...take your pick! Works for horror as a psychological thriller. Not an LOL funny song, but very well written and perfect for the genre that you were writing.

Great soundalikes and I liked the theme here, Melanie. Especially liked the line: "Ten thousand hoodlums--maybe three"
