Original Song Title:

"Je T'aime ... Moi Non Plus"

Original Performer:

Serge Gainsbourg et Jane Birkin

Parody Song Title:

"Let's Go Wisconsin Dells!"

The Lyrics

The song under parody here, when it first came out in 1969, came under particularly sharp attack right from the get-go across Europe, what with its sexually-suggestive lyrics and tone of presentation arousing criticism from especially the Holy See and many radio stations (except, perhaps, mavericks like Radio Luxembourg) banning the song outright from airplay. Which, in any case, generated enough attention as would make it #1 across European pop charts as 1969 segued into 1970. It would not be until the mid-1980's that many broadcasters would finally allow "Je t'aime ... moi non plus" any airplay.
I've had enough ... had quite enough
Of that idiot's box!
Who has the time ... who has the time
To watch anything?

CHORUS:
Let's go Wisconsin Dells, then;
Wisconsin Dells, then--
Let's go Wisconsin Dells ... Wisconsin Dells....
We could use some rest!!

100 channels ... 100 channels,
And who has the time
To sort through them all ... sort through them all,
To find something worth watching?

(repeat CHORUS)

The summertime heat ... the summertime heat,
Without a/c at all;
Driving us mad ... driving us mad;
Is there any hope?!

(repeat CHORUS)

We'd best get away ... we'd best get away
If we want to stay sane;
It's best for our minds ... it's best for our minds
If we just went away....

(repeat CHORUS)

Let's go to the Dells ... Wisconsin Dells....
To Wisconsin Dells....
[fade out]
