The Lyrics

Steer into the skid, genius.
I can't get no black ice traction
I can't get no black ice traction
I just slide and I slide and I slide and I slide
I can't get no, I can't get no

Well I'm drivin' in my car
I've been messin' with the radio
This station is such a bore
About to lose my concentration
Encounter highway condensation
I can't get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, tap brakes and pray

I can't get no black ice traction
I can't get no brake reaction
I just slide and I slide and I slide and I slide
I can't get slowed, I can't get slowed

Well this morning on TV
Weatherman comes on to tell me
How bad our roads will be
But I don't give a damn cause his climate zone
Is two thousand miles east
I can't get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, steer other way

I can't get no black ice traction
I can't get no steering action
I just slide and I slide and I slide and I slide
I can't grip road, I can't grip road

As I spin round like the world
In an endless skid and I'm shouting "Crap!"
And I feel like I'm gonna hurl
And I say please God let me live to see the next week
'cause you see I'm up a certain creek
I can't get no, oh no no no
Hey hey hey, it's not my day

I can't get slowed, I can't grip road
I can't get no black ice traction
No brake reaction, no steering action, no black ice traction

Nice. A tad repetitive, but so is the OS. In college, my dorm looked out onto a major interstate. It was fun to watch the fools try driving in the snow and ice without snow tires or 4-wheel-drive.

(SOTM) no slippage in your parody skills!

Funny how the mind works, I saw the words "black ice" and initially expected this to be about Willam Gibson's book Neuromancer, prize winning SF from the 80s, then I saw your name and knew it had to be about cars and/or driving. :-)

Been there, slipped due to that. Very good driving parody, much better than your entry last month, although you said that when you submitted this is not your best work.

(SOTM-FEB08) Been there - done that and skidded over the T-shirt. Good visuals of panic driving as I read this. Makes me glad I do not live in a cold climate anymore. The last time I saw snow it was 1985. Nice write.

(SOTM) Aussie don't get no snow, but I can appreciate a good ol' car crash parody as well as the next guy. That said, this was brilliant! "Not your best work" my Aston Martin!

Black ice is fun stuff... we only get it here every few years, but when we do, watch out! 4WD/low range+tire chains>black ice. Guardrails save the idiots who drive 70mph in bad weather...unforutunately. Maybe a follow up to this to "Slip, Slidin' Away" by Paul Simon? (n)Ice work, Jay.

(SOTM) Black ice is fun Red Ant? That's one of the things I DON'T miss from back home. . .very good job on parodying a very repetitive classic.

Super - the "slide and I slide" sub was spot on.

I've been here...didn't take your advice, and ended up doing a 540 in my Jeep, somehow staying on the road (and not flipping). 15 years later...it's almost funny to me :) Good song, you captured it well in a humorous way.

From reading the comments, am I to assume that there are parts of the world where it doesn't snow everyday? Better keep the '64 Mustang in the garage.

SOTM- Well, I can totally relate because of all of this Canadian snow we have. Very funny and well done.
