The Lyrics

This is the companion piece (so if it appears higher on the page, READ THE OTHER ONE FIRST!) to my other "Moonlight In Vermont" parody - "Ingrate To The Left". Here, President Obama answers the militant progressive charges of betrayal as he appears to take a less doctrinaire and confrontational approach to his presidency. In the end, it's window dressing as Gibbs, Axelrod, and Plouffe return to campaign functions and Emanuel returns to Chicago. Hey, raising a billion dollar war chest isn't easy when you've demonized the business community! ;D

Voting public spoke.
Time to use mirr-ors and smoke
And put on a sham.
Pro-fess-ors are gone,
Wall Street/gov pros now are on.
Centrist now I am!

Have civil discourse while showing no remorse,
I've always been mainstream I say.
Pro-"bizness" standing, not left-wing demanding,
So I'll win next e-lec-tion day.

Kept the Bush tax rate,
Disavowed all words of hate -
Must triangulate!

(Instrumental To Bridge)

Got my agenda, now I'll be a friend-a
The center so me you won't shelve.
For I'm not moving - I'm merely improving
My chances in two-thousand-twelve.

'Though it's just for show,
Voters are too dumb to know!
So why did I wait?
Have I be-come moderate too late?

Rhyming "agenda" and "friend-a" has to be the most outrageous coupling since Lorenz Hart's "I'd go to hell for ya - or even Philadelphia". In addition to the observations about TOS in my other version, the chorus lyrics (except for the bridge) actually follow the haiku pattern (5-7-5)! ;D

Astute observations, OMR-- it's all about 2012. If only we weren't all too dumb to realize it... (so true in the last stanza.) 555
