| Parody Song Title: | "Watermelon Truck" |
| Parody Written by: | Melanie Lee |
Yesterday evening, 7/1/07, a tractor-trailer carrying watermelons crashed with two cars on the Tappan Zee Bridge over the Hudson River in New York state. The truck driver was killed and a few others injured. The bridge was closed and traffic was tied up for hours. Warning: this parody may be too macabre for some.
Poor watermelon truck!
Poor watermelon truck
Tried to cross the bridge over the river
‘Cause he had some produce to deliver.
Curse his rotten luck!
Watermelon truck.
Poor watermelon truck!
Poor watermelon truck
Crashed two cars and jumped on the divider,
Burst in flames, the driver still inside her.
Did he say, “Oh, yucch!”?
Watermelon truck.
(instrumental bridge)
Burn, watermelon truck!
Burn, watermelon truck!
Clouds of black smoke rise into the skyways.
Crowds of cars are honking on the highways.
Doesn’t dying suck?
Watermelon truck.
Poor watermelon truck
Tried to cross the bridge over the river
‘Cause he had some produce to deliver.
Curse his rotten luck!
Watermelon truck.
Poor watermelon truck!
Poor watermelon truck
Crashed two cars and jumped on the divider,
Burst in flames, the driver still inside her.
Did he say, “Oh, yucch!”?
Watermelon truck.
(instrumental bridge)
Burn, watermelon truck!
Burn, watermelon truck!
Clouds of black smoke rise into the skyways.
Crowds of cars are honking on the highways.
Doesn’t dying suck?
Watermelon truck.
The original "Watermelon Man", written by Herbie Hancock in 1962, was an instrumental. Singer John Hendricks of Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross added lyrics a year later, but I can't find those lyrics online. Here's another "Watermelon Man" parody: Dan: Watermelon Man

In related news, a delivery truck crashed a few weeks ago on Route 95 in Rhode Island. Thankfully, no one was hurt because the truck was carrying soft drinks.
i don't mind "macabre'...i like your style
Hey, I found a YouTube video with Jon Hendricks singing the lyrics!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1paLa5CVs8
Hendricks also added lyrics to the "instrumental break"!
