The Lyrics

Ooh, I bet you're wondering how I knew
Bout those bugs' plans to make me blue
The holes in the leaves, they made it clear
That there are invertebrates to fear
It took me by surprise I must say
But this insecticide will save the day, so...

I sprayed it on the grapevine
Pretty soon those bugs will be dyin'
Oh I sprayed it on the grapevine
Cause if I didn't there'd be no grapes for wine
Honey, honey, yeah

You know I'd prefer not to spray
But those bugs I've got to keep away
IPM has clearly got a role
And I'm all for biocontrol
But sometimes the sprays work the best
And put my worst fears to rest, that's why...

I sprayed it on the grapevine
Pretty soon those bugs will be dyin'
Oh I sprayed it on the grapevine
Cause if I didn't there'd be no grapes for wine
Honey, honey, yeah

Yes I'm aware of consumer fear
But the residues will disappear
I understand the environmental view
And worker safety is important too
But I followed all the rules
And it's one of my best tools, so....

I sprayed it on the grapevine
Pretty soon those bugs will be dyin'
Oh I sprayed it on the grapevine
Cause if I didn't there'd be no grapes for wine
Honey, honey, yeah

Good parody-do you really grow grapes?

Unless Marvin´s version is quite different from CCR´s, the pacing is off real bad in some places. But a nice original idea.

Carl, Very good work. I had to do the pace a couple times but ultimately decided it was on. 5-5-5 To "Know 1 can hear you dream": Marvin Gaye's version IS different, his overall style is much smoother than CCR's. Fogerty gives it some of that "down-home country boy" rasp. Marvin's flows, Fogerty's chops & dices. It really depends on how long you hold a note on certain words, and that's a situation I've done more than a little bit of thinking about since I started posting here. I don't want to break every line into phonetics so I have to trust the readers to work with it a little if they think "hmmm..missed a bit here". They might still decide I did, and that's fine. I did that to a colleague here last week and he pointed out the specific way he had conceived it and "on further review" I agreed. I had "5" 'd it anyway, because it was a very small variance in my mind, and I still liked my suggestion better, but hey, HE's the author. Back seat drivers, when I am one, OK. When I'm driving...(Talking about me there, "dream", not you...)

TO: "Know 1 can hear you dream" - Hey, thanks for responding. I hadn't looked at any of Carl's stuff before and the two I had a chance to check on that day were top notch. I remember both versions and there's quite a bit of difference. Even when you know both versions sometimes it's tricky separating which pace is which now and then. The good thing about your making the remark is that the author knows why one of the pace scores seems a little on the low side. I know I appreciate that sort of thing on mine (after I finally stop howling and get up off the floor).
