The Lyrics

While... you... sit... and... watch... T-V...,
You... can... learn... your... A-B-Cs!

"A-y-y-y-y," a greeting from the Fonz
Bee, the aunt of Opie's pa
Sea, that tossed young Gilligan
Dee, 'What's Happening?' with Raj?
E! the network for the fans
Ef, for Efrem, 'F.B.I.'
"Gee," a Walton's family "damn!"
And that takes us on to H... H... H... H...

H, for.... 'H' - appropriate?
Ai, for Ricky's "Ai-yi-yi"
J., or else, he's 'Michael Fox'
Kay... (can't think of one, I've tried...)
Elle, who's often shown on E!
Em, an aunt who's Kansas-born*
En, to precede Oh and Pee
(Yes, that brings back to Opie, Opie...)

Cue - a prompt, like" Take 1 -- Roll!"
(Are you sick of all this yet?)
Aeschylus, TV sure ain't
(TV's dumb as dumb can get --
You know what I mean, I'm sure...)
V-chips keep the kids from harm
Dubya: please show him no more

And we end it all with... Eggs. Why? Zero left.
*yeah, I know... ;-)

Rod Worden - July 16, 2004 - Report this comment
VERY clever and creative, a fun read! 5s Leo.
Johnny D - July 16, 2004 - Report this comment
And some pseudo-intellectual know-it-alls say TV stifles creativity! HA! Let'em read THIS and they'll guffaw themselves to a new point of view!
EmiLoca - July 16, 2004 - Report this comment
"H-Appropriate" gets you immediate fives, but the whole thing was really very good.

Hey Ashkicksass, Rod, Johnny D and EmiLoca! Thanks! Much appreciated. Glad you got a kick out of it.

TV is a vast wasteland. And this parody is vastly clever!
Serafina - July 16, 2004 - Report this comment
Very creative and clever! I especially liked what you did with "O" and "P". And the last line was a very good use of the last three letters.
Leo Jay - July 17, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, JB and Serafina! Thanks for stopping by!

Somehow I missed this when it came out, but Ashkicksass told me that I had to check it out...so here I am...and YES! It's FABulous, Leo! I can't believe how smart you are. I thought I was the smartest girl in the world...oh wait, you're a boy...it's okay. Favorite line? "Kay... (can't think of one, I've tried...)..." Because I thought and thought and thought...and I couldn't think of one, either...5s!
Leo Jay - July 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, Arwen! I still can't think of a Kay. At least I think that line was sort of cute -- wish I'd been able to come up with a decent 'M', though...
M: one-third of MTV? Yeah, at least that's passable.
I'm too often in too much of a damn rush to submit... I ought to be more disciplined about letting things sit for a day or two before going back to re-edit. Oh well... Thanks, everyone -- you've been too generous!

Very nice job! It was great!

K-T, Ed O'Neil's wife? K-O Tyson pay per view? K-mart, Ethan's favorite store? Yup, it's tough.

Bob Smith: Thank you!

Spaff.com: I count on comments like yours...

Rick D: Ooh, that Tyson one's not bad...

(SOTM). D 3 last letters be å, ä & ö 4 me, but otherwise O-kay. Some Kay-Mart add stuff 4 Kay may-B?

(SOTM) hmm. Um, did you ever have those times where everybody in your close circle of friends likes this one new TV show, and the whole gang gets together and says, "Hey, check out this new TV show, it's sooo funny". And they pop in a VHS tape of the show, and the whole gang is sitting there laughing and chortling away, but you sit in the middle of the whole thing, shrugging your shoulders and wondering to yourself, "What am I missing? I don't get it. Have I lost my sense of humor?" And, gosh, that's exactly how I feel reading this one. Leo, please don't feel bad, I guess this didn't connect at all for me. I won't even vote on it.

Oy, isn't that just like me to fixate on the weeds instead of the flowers -- sorry folks:

Know 1: Okay... As GWB would say, "I've never even been to Switzerland, so I'll have to take your word for it..."
Arwen: Thanks, kid, especially after all the crap I give you.
Ahnonamis: You're too kind. Really. You are.
BLO-TOWN: Present and accounted for. But how do I know you fully read, absorbed and considered the greater philosophical meaning of each phrase? Pop quiz: Quick -- what's 'I'? C'mon... aww... too slow... FRAUD!
Johnny D: Thanks for coming back. Even though you... had to.

(SOTM) Clever, witty, but enough about me. I loved the 'H appropriate' pun the best, and the 'Oh Pee- Opie' link was genius. The third paragraph was... what am I saying? The whole thing was excellent and I can't see how Aggy couldn't enjoy it.

Some tyrant made me come here and pretend to read this. Everyone seems to like it so I'll agree and maybe you'll believe I really read it mwahahahaha....alright it was clever, though I don't agree with the "dumb as dumb can get" slam; I eff-ing love television, it brings more people far more joy than any religion ever has.
Peregrin - August 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Well, I thought it was good and represented some hard work. My fave line was "J., or else, he's 'Michael Fox'".

sotm--Leo, this was excellenet! Really enjoyed it.
Agrimorfee - June 24, 2005 - Report this comment
I'm reading this one again for Show & Tell (for folks who don't know what that is, see the message board thread), and I'm telling you, I don't know what I was thinking in my initial comments for the SOTM. Critics backpedal often, and this is definitely the case here. I'm giving you an extra 555 for this piece of work that, upon reflection, was a real treasure that I couldn't see the first time around.
Stuart McArthur - June 24, 2005 - Report this comment
d'oh - I got within 2 comments of the end and Peregrin pinched my favourite line - "J., or else, he's 'Michael Fox'" although the Oh, Pee, Opie was rather brilliant too, and so much else - this one was touched Leo - 555
