| Parody Written by: | Leo Jay |
With all due respect to performers -- original and otherwise (after all, I'm one myself) -- I don't know that the original creators get enough credit for writing the stuff we love enough to parody, so I'm going to start doing that:Original Words and Music by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
Her days of obscurity assuredly are over
Soon, she'll grace the gossip page with rock star casanovas
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
... Won-really-big-and-made-it-onto-'S.I.' ...
... Won-really-big-and-made-it-onto-'S.I.' ...
The girl was born a Soviet, descended from the czars
Her family was poor and had no house, no food, no car
But when she showed potential with a racket in her hand
Her family sought out the world's most famous tennis camp... FOR
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
She's a teenage prodigy (much like our EmiLoca)
Serves with ease, and what's more, she's a blistering backstroker
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
So then the plans at once began to travel to the States
Maria said "I'll see ya, for my destiny awaits..."
When grandma said "I'm quite upset you're travelling so far"
She said, "don't cry, babushke -- I'll be back when I'm a star..." OH!
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
Flush with fame, they know her name way up in Manitoba
Superstar now has a car (and it's no souped-up Nova)
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
Much of her time was spent on court, the rest was spent in school
When she filled out, the boys surrounded her to stare and drool
Though what I still can't understand, though ugly she is not
Is how full-grown adult men can refer to girls as "hot" - (E-W-W-W!)
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
Men and boys admire her 'poise' from far as Nova Scotia
E-mail's full of marital (and indecent) proposals
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
The papers said, "she's good -- and better still, she's very cute..."
So soon her bod by all the mod'ling agents was pursued
But she said "wait -- let's get things straight: my tennis must come first!
I'm not some Anna flash-in-pan who'll go from fad to worst..." NO!
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
She's got fame and looks AND game -- no Anna 'Kareer-Over'
She's a star who will go far, a shooting supernova
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
Un-seeded, un-conceited but with great reserves of will
She now has won at Wimbledon with talent guts and skill
Her pretty face of late has graced the hottest magazines
I'm sure much more will be in store - she's only just a teen, THIS
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova
Beat the seed who's known to be a 'Witness' for Jehovah
Now a star bigger by far than old Nav-ra-ti-lo-va
Supermodel tennis champ Maria Sharapova!

Geez, when I started, I had no idea just how many 'Super...' parodies there were! A bunch are listed as being in released in the 60's, and a whole bunch more are listed under 'miscellaneous...'

Whew! That was good! 5's
Very good!
Wowza! Great stuff, Leo!
Very good, Leo Jay. I liked the Anna Kournikova cheap shots and the clever way of referring to Serena Williams. I commend you for and look forward to reading your efforts to pay tribute to the Sherman brothers.
Thanks, all!
John Jenkins: I see that my comments were unclear (as well as saddled with typos) -- I'm not planning a Sherman tribute parody or anything (other than this one, I guess) -- I just meant I'm going to start crediting the original songwriters in my top comments, as I did here.

Good stuff, Leo...=) 5s...
Kristof: oh go ahead. Geez, if I could submit a 'Super...' parody after so many had already been done, and so well, you can certainly do another Sharapova. And thanks, Arwen!
Love - 555. Game, set, parody.
Wow! Great job, Leo Jay! 5's
Thanks, Know 1 and Johnny D!
It takes mad skillz to make a good parody to that tune. 5's and props.
thanks, miguelito -- there's an abundance of mad skilz to be found on this site from the parodies to this tune alone, let alone all the other stuff.
"She's hot!" --Spaff, full-grown adult man
Impressive as usual, Lee OJ. You've got quite a racket going here.

I am duly impressed!
That is absolutely brilliant Leo - too many good lines to mention - they're all good - and the way you varied the choruses was inspired - 555
Great work! You're right, troops of parodies here mimic this overdone opus. ;)
Amazing that I happened to find this! Glad I did though...caused quite a racket around the office!
"Men and boys admire her 'poise' from far as Nova Scotia" shows you like a good internal rhyme yourself Leo
- but really I'm only re-commenting so the comment will appear on today's "Latest Comments" and tempt other readers into having a re-look at this masterpiece - well done again

Leo, this is so good I'm going to send the link to a friend. I wish I knew Maria Sharapova. If I did, I'd send the link to her and she might be so moved that she would pick you as her boyfriend instead of some Enrique Iglesias-type. I watched the Australian Open last night. Serena beat her, but it was a great match. Of the two, I'm probably more attracted to Serena, but I'm just weird that way.
Seeing it's tennis season (and Sharapova's grunts have been keeping me company from afar) I thought I'd look in on this one again. I reiterate the great work here and second Stu's views (ha!) on the fine internal rhymin' that you've popped here like a h...
Thanks to all for the recent comments. Nice of you all to give this new life!
