The Lyrics

The Manhatten Project with a little mention of the German and Japanese efforts... need other parodies to deal with those in any depth. I also mention the British contribution in 1940 with "Tube Alloys"- their Atomic Bomb project. The US also got uranium from Canada during the war and from captured German stocks in Europe...
(Big Bomb, Big Bomb)

In 1940 the British arrived
Carrying a briefcase, "Tube Alloys", a Big secret inside
Fear of losin’ the war to Germany, so they made the trip
To America where they could help make- a Big Bomb

(Big Bomb, Big Bomb) Big Atomic Bomb (Big Bomb)

The year before, Edward Teller and Albert Einstein had met
Wrote a letter to President Roosevelt about the German uranium bomb threat
Perceived as a development from the atom-splitting Otto Hahn
The United States could not afford to let the Nazis get… the Big Bomb

So the US Army started the “Manhatten Project” in mid-42
Not knowing what exactly the Germans were up to
They had tried heavy water, but got a contaminated moderator
But the US effort was much larger and much greater-the Big Bomb

(Big Bomb, Big Bomb) Big Atomic Bomb (Big Bomb)

The US sought all the uranium it could find
To enrich it into U-235
Device would be a “gun-type” fashioned into components
Developed in secret at Los Alamos- a secret bomb

At Trinity, they had tested that man-made hell
The “Gadget” had worked and it worked damn well
Yet it made some of the weaker scientists groan
But President Truman would not postpone-the Big Bomb

(Big Bomb, Big Bomb) Big Atomic Bomb (Big Bomb)

In occupied Korea, at a secret facility in Konan
The Japanese were working on a Big Bomb "Genzei Bakudan”
They were far from finished, just too late…
But the United States just couldn‘t wait -with the Big Bomb

After taking back most of the Pacific, the Japs still wouldn’t back down
Sendin’ Kamikaze pilots into warships, spreadin’ terror around
This looked bad for an Allied autumn ‘45 invasion
There was no other persuasion- time to use the Big Bomb

(Big Bomb, Big Bomb) Big Atomic Bomb (Big Bomb)

Over Hiroshima and Nagasaki the B-29s dropped them
Both “Enola Gay” and “Bock’s Car” dropped them
They helped to finally end the war with Japan
While the third one remained unfinished on Tinian, Big Bomb

(Big Bomb, Big Bomb) Big Atomic Bomb (Big Bomb)

[Fade]
(Big Bomb, Big Bomb) Big Atomic Bomb (Big Bomb)

If the bomb had not been dropped, perhaps my Dad would have been sent to the Pacific for the invasion in November of '45. And who knows then if I would be here now. From tracing history, I learned that I owe my existence in part to a church fire in St Mary's, Kansas in 1908. My grandfather was a student at the local college when he spotted the daughter of a stone mason who came from Kansas City to help rebuild the church.

Nice history lesson. Pacing is off, but a good read overall.

Thanks for pointing that out Warren- my biggest trouble writing these parodies is pacing b/c of my themes or the fact that I have never heard many of these songs and how the performer sang it- makes all the difference in the world... but most people here seem to enjoy my "historical knowledge" through song anyway or my "tech details" for machines of war. oh well, it takes all kinds... but TY for the input. I write most of my parodies in minutes up to 20. MJ's "Jam" parody took me longest thus far- over 1 hr to write, correct, and submit.

TT (or Tommy Turtle) put out a pacing guide that I've found helpful in the past, and you may also find some value in it. YouTube helps, of course. But sometimes artists are their worst enemies when the metre in their lyric contradicts the emphasis placed in the song. And you learn very quickly what artists are poetic and what artists are...er...not (i.e. Katy Perry, et al).
I used to do the 20 minute treatment, too, and I still do on occasion. But most of the time I found the extra time spent on nailing some words to the rhythm of the song the better way to go and very satisfying.
So if you get the chance, read the TT guide to better living through minding metre:

Try the tips, and you'll see results. And once you know the rules, you'll certainly know when to break them to the write benefit. Keep cranking them out, Rob.

P.S. Like most advice, this is offered free and without warrenty. Not valid in Alaska, Taiwan, and most holidays. Contact your local dealer for additional discounts and diatribes. Does not include tax, title, and list of items manufactured in foreign countries like Texas, Vermont, and Neptune.
