The Lyrics

Eddie Cochran performed this original song as the tribute to his friends Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and J.P. Richardson, "Big Bopper", who got killed in an airplane crash. Little did he then know that he too was assigned in the Big Band of Heaven. But so were the bass player of The Crickets and the sadly lesser known German-British artist, who was on his turn to perform the tribute to Eddie Cochran. Here is my tribute to those three.
Look up in the sky, up towards the north
There are three new stars, brightly shining forth
They're shining oh so bright, from heaven above
Gee we're gonna miss you, everybody sends their love

Eddie, you performed the original song as a tribute to your friends.
You were only twenty-one and your own star was rising
You were on your tour in UK with Gene Vincent, your friend
Underway to Heathrow your taxi slid off the road and you met your end
Gene and Sharon Sheeley survived the crash, but you passed away
They said the rockabilly music died that day
Gee we're gonna miss you, everybody sends their love

Waylon, you were the bass player of Buddy Holly's band
You played with Tommy Allsup with skill that's hard to understand
You lost that fateful dice throw, but it saved your life so dear
You got back to country, and you made a solo career
With Willie, Kris and Johnny you then formed the Highwaymen
the greatest country quartet, never surpassed since then
You succumbed to diabetes and troubles with your heart
But you were a true country star right from the start
Gee we're gonna miss you, everybody sends their love

I see a third man, Heinz Burt is your name
You sang the tribute to Eddie and that brought you fame
You never got the recognition you really would have deserved
And tragically you passed away on disease on your nerves
Still, we're gonna miss you, everybody sends their love

Look up in the sky, up towards the north
There are three new stars, brightly shining forth
They're shining oh so bright, from heaven above
Gee we're gonna miss you, everybody sends their love

Susanna - Wonderful heartfelt tribute. I knew about Waylon Jennings giving up his seat. Thanks for sharing this. ;D
