Gramps had a goat'
He used to keep him in the back
Fenced in a pen behind the barn
A big white billy goat, his name was Sherman
He never did nobody any harm

He was Grampa's prize possession
Every year to be displayed
With a float that he would enter
In the Labor Day parade

On one boring day, I roped him
And led him from his stall
But, he broke away and ran
Into a shed, made paint cans fall

Sherman then, looked like a rainbow
Paint spilled on his back and neck
He was A Goat Of Many Colors
And I sure knew I'd catch heck

Tried to do some real fast thinkin'
'Bout the yellow blue and red
On that Goat Of Many Colors
'Cause if Gramp sees this, I'm dead

Come on braincells, start a buzzin'
Help this poor boy in distress
He'll be back in half an hour
Gotta' get out of this mess

Doesn't look too good to me
All covered up with paint
Sherman ain't supposed to be

Well, paint had caused the problem
Maybe paint can make it right
I grabbed a couple spray cans
And re-painted Sherman white

Everything seemed hunky dory
He looked as white as snow
Not that Goat Of Many Colors
He was a while ago

Down the lane, heard Grampa's Chevy
Really glad I used my bean
When he finished feedin' Sherman
He said, "That old goat sure stays clean."

Late that night there came a rainstorm
Paint was water base I'd sprayed
There was A Goat Of Many Colors
In that Labor Day parade..
