Song Parodies -> Sixteen-Note Samba

Original Song Title:

"One-Note Samba"

Original Performer:

Antonio Carlos Jobim

Parody Song Title:

"Sixteen-Note Samba"

Parody Written by:

Mari Aranoff

Jobim, who wrote the music to many great Brazilian songs, is also the composer of "Girl From Ipanema." The original lyrics for these songs are in Portuguese. Those lyrics must make more sense than the English translations, which are usually fairly lame. And I never understood why they call this song a one-note samba; it may start with just one note, but...
They say it's a one-note samba
But the lyric writers lie
The song contains more than a dozen
And they'll hide it if they try
Even though in the beginning it
Stays upon the note, it's true
Try to sing it and you'll notice that it will really confuse you

There's so many people who will try to sing and then
They must inhale now, to hit the scales now
When they use up all the notes they know
They realize it's a long samba, sixteen-note samba

When you get back to the first note
Breathe some air into your chest
You'll be glad to hit that same note
And to finally get some rest
If you're done in by this samba
And you're in a tuneful hole
Dump this sixteen-note-long samba
And go sing some rock and roll!

How can you have a 16 note song when there's only 12 notes in a scale?

I didn't expect a lot of response on this one; there aren't a lot of other bossa nova parodies on this site. But what the hell. I felt like doing it anyway! You must be a musician. I was counting individual notes, with the same notes in different octaves as separate notes. If I didn't do that, it would be a nine-note samba with slightly different parody lyrics!
