The Lyrics

For the second time in as many years (I've only been a real contributor since June 2009), here are my predictions for tonight's State Of The Union Address. I do this as President Obama giving us a preview of the main event. BTW, don't get into any drinking games which involve the words "civility" and "investments". ;D

It's the most wonderful speech of the year!
All the Dems will be cheering
And Reps will be fearing
The words that they'll hear,
As I kick my next campaign in high gear.
But I'll use a new demeanor this time.
For instead of attacking
And nasty wisecracking,
I'll show you that I'm
Quite a most civilized man - don't use slime!

They'll be much kum-bah-yahing -
No party line drawing.
I'll show you that I'm a good sport.
They'll be no petty blaming
And shameless defaming
Of some members of the High Court.

It's the most civilized kind of discourse.
For you'll see me foreswearing
The mean angry blaring
And verbage of force.
So don't think that this is all Trojan Horse!

(Instrumental To Bridge)

Dems and Reps of all feather
Will all sit together
In amity they'll meet and greet.
There'll be no sullen grumbling -
The love will be humbling.
Pelosi will stay in her seat!

I will not spend the address dishing blame!
But you know I'm suggesting
When I say "investing"
It's more of the same.
Yes, my most wonderful speech is a game!

George Wyle (1916-2003), who composed this song, also wrote The Ballad of Gilligan's Island and was music director of the Flip Wilson Show. ;D

Kum-bay-yahing. I love it. I remember when Clinton blamed the gun control bill for the Democrats loss of Congress. I wonder if Obama will get the message from the recent election.
