If they use the same military hardware, how will they tell who is who? Wouldn't it be quite easy for both sides to change uniforms and markings? I suspect Russia already has covert Spetsnaz units in the Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
The Ukrainians use a variant of the T-80 known as the T-84 and like Serbia and Croatia use alternate versions for small arms, armor, aircraft, and ships.
