The Lyrics

I've seen "Date Movie", "Meet The Spartans", and "Epic Movie".
I've seen "The Starving Games", "Vampires Suck", and "Disaster Movie".
I hit the theater, bought my tickets, and gave them my money.
But I didn't see a single thing that could be thought as funny.

Random pop culture references have never got a laugh.
Nor random fart jokes which seem to be the movie's first half.
Explaining every joke will not make it much better.
Neither will "celebrity" cameos like Eddie Vedder.

Seltzer and Friedberg have set back comedy.
They have failed to parody.
They fail to parody.

I miss Jim Abrahams and Mel Brooks and the Zucker Brothers.
I miss "The Naked Gun" and "Hot Shots", "Airplane" and the others.
I miss "Top Secret", "Spaceballs", even "Wrongfully Accused".
They should have a comeback or maybe we should find someone new.

Maybe it's Dan Harmon, or "Weird Al" Yankovic.
Or someone unknown 'cause Seltzer and Friedberg make me sick.
They have made disasters of movie parodies.
And they get low ratings all over the IMDb.

They'll go straight to video or to cable T.V.
When they fail to parody.
They fail to parody.

Yeah yeah yeah.

555 Brian... but have to say that parody humor is like art- in th eye of the beholder. Many of the films you list are slapstick and that is just one sub-genre of comedy films. There's intellectual humor (think Woody Allen), dark humor (any of Tim Burton's stuff), over the top humor ("Knocked Up", "Superbad', "Grandma's Boy", "Pineapple Express", "Something About Mary", etc...), foreign humor (Brit Monty Python types, others from many lands), and direct parodies (like "Iron Sky" which is hard for people to follow if they don't get the jokes about German technology, disc aircraft, the Nazi regime, German weapons history, etc...). And that's just a few examples. I love all genres and sub-genres of film. It really depends on the individual and even the circumstances of the first viewing. If you go to a cramped theater with bad seating and viewing along with a rowdy crowd it can affect your perception of the movie and your viewing experience. And watching at home with dogs and kids in the way, screaming, fighting, other distractions can also alter perceptions. I try to watch movies in theaters first day if blockbuster and weeks later for average (the crowd in one affects the pleasure of the first while the absence in the others allows another kind of pleasure). Movies at home depend on who is over or what I'm dealing with at the time. And our views on what is funny changes like everything else over time. Some films like "Animal House" remain comedy classics, but others that were funny as a kid over decades are viewed as an adult as not so funny anymore. I used to love "1941" but now get annoyed by it as well as other Belushi films. SNL tv comedy was very funny back when but seems dull now. Things change... all always will. More people like Adult Swim material for example or view White Trash television shows as hilarious (from "Duck Dynasty" to "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo!!!").
