The Lyrics

Whether air racing, car racing, boat racing, boxing, cage fighting, bullfighting. etc... the spectators come for two things- to witness a competition but also to witness tragedy. They gasp and scream and even cry when someone dies but weren't they all excited when the cars pile up, the plane crashes, the boat disintegrates, the boxer has his brains beat out, the cage fighters collapses, and the bullfighter gets gored??? the loss of Dan Wheldon IS a tragedy but a 100% preventable one. And he and the fans knew the risks of Indy racing. I am not putting the sports nor the competitors down and certainly not poking fun at Wheldon's death, just adding commentary over these events. What do people EXPECT to happen on a crowded track at speeds of 200+ mph. 34 cars were in this event and even Wheldon said beforehand that ANYTHING could happen with that many cars out competing. He just didn't know it would cost him his life this time out. That is SAD...
Dan Wheldon racing star
Age 33, died in Vegas
15 car accident
Too bad he didn’t make it

200 laps on a 1.5 mile oval track
11th lap, suddenly a grave mishap
Many racers collided, Wheldon airborne like that
Second turn, hit Power’s car, he was trapped

Landed on burning wreckage
Both caught on the catch fence
Air-lifted to hospital
He never had a chance

Collision, collision
Tracy hit debris
Dan Wheldon then vaulted
Hit inside at speed

Smashed into the wall
Onto Power’s flaming wreck
Flames engulfed them all
A hideous accident

Was it worth racing thrills?
Was it worth seeing cars smashed?
These races sure can kill
Even as tears fell for this crash

But that is what spectators come to see
Dear God…these tragedies at the Indys

To the person who left the 1 for funny- I understand. I like Indy myself and Danica Patrick... but even if she died under similar circumstances, everyone that races knows that this is beyond just another competitive sport- that at speeds up to 230 mph ONE mistake can kill. In the 15 car pile-up that killed Wheldon, it is indeed fortunate that many others did not die too. As it were 2 were injured.
