The Lyrics
There was a dog named Luther
Lived way down in Oz
Held by a drunken owner
Who once loved that Queensland dog
Now the worker cut sugar cane
Came home soaked in sweat
Started drinkin’ and hollerin’
And lost all gambling bets
Was forever in others debt
So he got drunk and angry
And he beat that dog
Whipped him good, denied him food
Tied him up like a hog
Now this went on for months
And Luther did bare his teeth
The owner ran and grabbed his gun
To kill ‘em and sell the beef
Along with Kangaroo meat...
But the dog climbed in the hayloft
And the drunk followed in pursuit
Got to the top, dog pushed him off
Landed in a chipper chute
As the drunkard cursed intensely
His legs were caught inside
So limpin’ Luther came around
Down to the backside
The drunk still had his shotgun
Aimed it at the dog
But Luther yanked the lever, limbs became severed
And the chipper became clogged
Blood, flesh, bits of bone
The drunkard was no more
So the next time you beat a canine
Think of the Queensland dog Luther
Munchin’ on bone near the barn door…
