Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The Polyphonic Spree is a 24-member band (yes--24 members) out of Texas with former members of Tripping Daisy, known for their energetic and ecstatic live shows featuring symphonic, happy music espousing positive outlooks, guaranteed to put a smile on the face of even the most jaded grump. (www.polyphonicspree.com) What better band to provide the music for an imaginary commercial advertising the imaginary corporate merging of the two major fast food restaurant chains?
(sound of burgers frying on a grill, fading in louder and louder...)

With fast food you chose
There was always the top two
Back since the dawn of time
Yeah, everyone thought we'd all die
Eating this food since youth
There was always the top two
And Ronald The Clown was God
Yeah, everyone wants fast food now
Junk, junk, junk...

Eat what you want, get your burger fix
Yeah, you're loving it!
Two Big Macs for yourself
And a large order of fries
Quarter Pounder with cheese, get your burger fix
Yeah, I'm loving it!
Two Whoppers for yourself
And a large order of fries

Hail the Fry Guys, Hail the Fry Guys
The place that we know, the place that we know
For here or to go, for here or to go?
Go, go, go!
(2x)

Anyway, it seems that time has ticked away
And Ray Kroc fulfilled his mission well
We've simplified the treats, no more Supersize
Good food became the mission of our life
The best place for the fast food now?
The merge is gonna start today
The best place for fast food, get in line--
It's "McDonald's Burger King"! (tm)

La, la, la, la-la-la (continously)
Step right up, be happy again
Our new improved restaurants are for you
The servers are ready to ring you up
There will be wrong orders no longer!
We cook much better than ever before!
With all new menu items, you'll see!
The fries are up, you'll be happy again!
You will chow down like kings, you'll see we're proud!

McWhoppers on the buns, they're made just right!
In 16 days, we'll blow your mind!
Won't you just give it a try?
(2x)

You know the food is right...
On a sesame-seed BUUUUUUUUUNNN!
Service with a smile

Buuuuuuuuunnnnss!
Service with a smile! (Repeat, over...)

You deserve a break today!
So go ahead, come put your life in our hands!

Buuuuuuuuns! Service with a smile!
(4x, slowly decreading tempo)

COME IN TODAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Steve! I hope there are more fans of PS out there who might get a giggle out of this...or that folks who haven't heard of them before will seek them out. They are awesome! :)

(SOTM) Only Johnny D will probably understand this stupid foreign comment, but the Swedish term for DP is also a term referring to the simplest kind of burger with two pieces of bread and a piece of meat in the middle. And I have no idea why this reminded me of that. :-)

The buuuuuunnss.....the sound of burgers frying getting louder and louder....the la la la's ..... LOL! This is a hoot! Makes me hungry for some fresh, hot, smörgåsar !!

(SOTM) And this is my official July SOTM visit, as well ..... good parody, Agrimorfee.

Of course, K1chyd, if a little smörgåsar is not to your liking, you can always try some hackad biff to liven-up the party! ;-D

As long as it´s not hackad lever (liver) - biff. And you know that double entendre you have with the word that means cat? We have the same, only with the word for mouse. (Insert your own computer-related joke here).

You plumb the depths of obscurity when Mari and I never heard of it. Good rag on the arches, though.

(SOTM) Home on Dee Range... moving on, this was a scrumdiddilyumtpious parody that's got my stomach rumbling for fried grease. And that website was psychadelic, maaaaan!!!

HEY!!! *I* was gonna write a parody about a McDonalds/Burger King merger to the tune of a Polyphonic Spree song! Damn you, Aggro - you're always stealing my ideas!
Meriadoc - August 25, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Well, I don't know the song, and tried hard but failed to find it, so I'll have to give you that 'benefit of the doubt' 4 on the pacing... ;-) And you really scared me there for a minute - I thought BK and McD were really merging! :-O
Claude Prez - August 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Never heard of P-Spree but I remember Tripping Daisy had a song I liked (what was it, dammit?) Anyway, I love the idea of McD fries with BK burgers...(Homer Simpson drooling sound)...mmmmm...fat globules...
Peregrin - August 30, 2004 - Report this comment
I couldn't find it either (and believe me, along with Merry, I tried), so I too have to give "BOTD" on pace. However I like the rest of it, and love the original group's name.

Prescience. Burger King reaching out to McDonald's to create a McWhopper. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20150826/NEWS07/150829894

Fun little tune here! Not overly hilarious but it's nice to see these two fast food Gods join forces instead of battling each other.
bobpiecheese - October 04, 2016 - Report this comment
(ABC) I'm kinda torn here. On the one hand, the lyrics were mostly generic, with references to the two businesses being rather scattered and the "we now serve good food" wasn't really all that funny. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I'd be lost with more references, what with Burger King not really existing in Australia (it's called Hungry Jack's due to trademark issues and from what I've read the menu's mostly different) and my Macca's not having the Fry Guys, so either way this wasn't the parody for me, sorry to say.
Abbott Skelding - October 10, 2016 - Report this comment
Wow, very obscure band...and you managed to stretch out the idea for a ten minute song...that's always difficult to do. Nicely done!

Alright, pretty short comment 12 years ago. A nice, job, I wasn't familiar with the original song either.
