The Lyrics

I wrote this as part of a complete comedic parody of the Shakespearean play Macbeth. It will only make sense if you have read the play. This song belongs in Act 3, Scene 4, where the ghost of Banquo appears at the banquet. In our play he jumps out and sings this song.
At first I was a friend - at least I thought so
but it turned out you regarded me as just another foe
and now I've spent some time thinkin' how you murdered me
and I decided to crash your party
and so I'm back, from outer space
I just walked in; you stared at me with a look of horror on your face
you should have known that I'd return, it really isn't something new
you should have realized that I'd be back to bother you

You thought I'd gone, that you had gotten rid of me
that doing so secured the throne for your family
you plotted how to kill me, and you made sure that you could
you thought I'd left, you thought that I was gone for good
Oh no, not I! I will revive
as long as my son Fleance lives, my lineage will survive
there are many kings to come, but you shall not bear even one
and I'll revive, I will revive!

It took all the strength I had to come back from the dead
I wanted to make sure you saw my bloody, battered head
so I came into your banquet and disrupted all the fun
and from this moment on, your guests shall not number one
and you see me, here at your table I sit
look over at your guests - they think you're having quite a fit
so as you live now as the ruler wearing all those golden rings
just remember - that my children shall be kings!

This was only OK, but I bent the rules a little bit just to salute your willingness to try something so audacious. Never mind that Will was trying to kiss up to Jimmy Stuart. No, not George Bailey, King James VI/I. It's still my favorite of the 37. "All the world's a stage." -- William Shakespeare. "But the play is badly cast." -- Oscar Wilde.
