The Lyrics

My sister, Patty Barker, passed away yesterday after a fierce battle with pancreatic cancer. A finer friend, or sister, never lived.
Patty Barker
1046-2006

Men ain't s'posed to cry
Not tough guys like me
As I say goodbye
The tears are flowin' free

She's more than a girl...I need not explain
I'll have her memories inside my brain
Her death don't please me
But she-ee's free

Way up in the sky
Angels are appeased
Patty's now nearby
By His side forever seen

She's free as a bird...and free of the pain
Though I never heard her once complain
She couldn't be cured, I need not explain
That a brother's loss is heaven's gain
Her death don't please me
But she-ee's free

Every day I'd pray...I'd pray that she
Would be all right...I would stay up through the night
Just in case she'd...need anything

Men ain't s'posed to cry
Not tough guys like me
Those rules don't apply
When feeling this bereaved

I'm only a man writin' silly dumb songs
Looking for inspiration now that she's gone
Only a man who is plodding along
Knowing she's in my heart to make me strong
To make me strong
Make me strong
Yeah make me strong
To make me strong

I'm only a man
In a teary wet shirt
A lonely old man
Who can't shake this hurt

I'm only a man
Who is weary and hurt
Her death don't please me, hymn hymn hymn
This don't please me
But God...speed
I'm heading to the Colorado mountains for the summer, and may be incommunicado for months. Until I clear my head, I won't be writing any parodies for the forseeable future. Hope to be back in the fall sometime. Everyone take care, and thanks for all your support during my bad time.

Dee, I voted 5's just because it's an excellent tribute, the funny factor doesn't play here. It's wonderful to believe and know that a person is in a better place.

Touchingly beautiful tribute. Fives to Patty for fighting (love the choice of OS group name), Fives to you for standing by her side throughout, and Fives for your eloquence. We are all with you in spirit.

"That a brother's loss is heaven's gain" - amen, brother - you obviously had a wonderful relationship with Patty, Dee, and that's a blessing - I'll be thinking of you during your grieving, and looking forward to your next submissions when you feel like coming back - amiright is all the funnier when you're around, and I hope you'll bring your unique crazy humour back to us as soon as you feel able - 555

Sorry to hear about your loss, Dee. I got a chance to speak to Patty only for a moment a few months ago but, she seemed like a lovely person. I am with you in your grief. Wonderful tribute.

Royce, alvin, Matthias, Tommy Turtle, Stuart McArthur, and Rick C......I thank you for the sincere sharing , for helping me get through this, and especially for all the humor that every one of you bring to this site. Patty laughed long and loud at parodies from each and every one of you.....I would send them via email to her computer at work when I knew she would like them. Losing her inspiration is going to make writing much harder....I couldn't wait to finish one to show her and hear her laugh. I'll have to learn a different approach for inspiration, but hope to regain the urge again soon. Take care mates.

I'm very sorry for your loss, Dee. I'm glad the two of you did get to spend time together before she passed. What Stu said, too.
