If you are reading this, congratulations, this is the new server! Stuff may still be broken from the move, I'm still looking for bugs.
Stuart McArthur - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
I can read that message Chucky but congratulations may not yet be in order. I haven't been able to post to the MB in 2 days and still can't - Whenever I try to post a comment, I get this message...

"Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message"

also when I log in it won't accept my password the first time, but does the second time, although then I can't do anything other than read past messages

also Latest Comments seems stuck, and an error message appears at the bottom when I bring up parodies

Is it just me, or is it just a temporary hitch?
ChuckyG - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
MB? you mean inthe00s? That site is not changed, any problems you are having there are related to your browser or something. The latest comments will start updating soon. What parodies page is showing errors?

Yes these are temporary hitches, but I still have to hunt them all down and fix them.
ChuckyG - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
nevermind, I think I know what you meant about the error message. I fixed those, and the latest comments should also now being updated. Let me know if you spot anything else.
Red Ant - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
Stu, check your cookie setting. I got that same message a while back, and realized my cookies were set at "high". If you set them to medium or medium high, you should be able to post on inthe00s.com. The "high" setting also prevents you from recording votes on AmiRight.
Jonathan - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
Chucky if You didn't already I would like to know if it's possible to delete "Thriller Food" and "You Are A Big Discrace" from my parody list I didn't write them according to the dates they were made before I even knew of this site and BTW terrific job keep up the good work!
Stuart McArthur - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
thanks Jack, but I just checked that, and my cookies setting is on medium. (btw could you please send your email address to stuartmcarthur@hotmail.com so I can give you posts to post on the MB on my behalf - thanks)

what happens is I try to log on, and it says my password is incorrect. then I try again and it lets me in.

But then I can't do anything other than read.

also this partially obscured message appears in the top right corner:

Warning: Unknown: open(/tmp/sess_ebac9551639ba4e3e7cb1d2eab48e455, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied

when I try to post a comment it says "error: your session has timed out" and asks me to log out and try again. but then I can't even log out so have to wait an hour for it to log itself out so I can try again, still with no success though

if I don't get it fixed by Wednesday, you may have to put the P voting thread up for me and the Q submission thread

if you see a post by me in the meantime, you'll know I've fixed it

also I don't have any problems on any other site - just the inthe00s

thanks mate - stu
Stuart McArthur - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
sorry to hog this thread - it's my only point of contact...

Jack: the entire Warning message I referred to above is -

Warning: Unknown: open(/tmp/sess_ebac9551639ba4e3e7cb1d2eab48e455, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in Unknown on line 0

Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct () in Unknown on line 0

hope this gives you some clues on how to rescue me! - thanks :-)

Stu, I've set up a hotmail account for you (redant50@hotmail.com): you can send me anything you need me to post there.

I've had a similar error message appear on inthe00s.com a few times using while IE. I had the same problems as you (couldn't post, log out or send PMs). The only way I could clear it was to close the page and browser and re-open it by manually typing in the URL into my address bar (using "my favorites" seemed to always generate the same error). If you see that error displayed on the page, close and re-open inthe00s.com until it is gone. If that error is displayed you won't be able to post. I hope that works.
Red Ant - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
PS: I've notified ChuckyG of that error. Also, if you have it, try using another browser like Firefox.
Jonathan - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
hey Red Ant could You please tell me how to delete "Thriller Food" & "You Are A Big Discrace"? and if not could You please notify ChuckyG that I wish to delete them? thanks
Red Ant - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
Jonathan, as you didn't write those two parodies I can't ask ChuckyG to delete them for you. For now, just leave comments on those parodies that you are not the same Jonathan who wrote those.
Below Average Dave - January 14, 2007 - Report this comment
I aparently need to read the news descriptions more often. . .I didn't submit any parodies over the weekend, but I submitted a recording, should I resubmit? Sorry, I'll pay more attention next time.
Jonathan - January 15, 2007 - Report this comment
thanks Red Ant I'll do that! and Chucky this is a GREAT SITE!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR IT!!!
ChuckyG - January 15, 2007 - Report this comment
I made some more changes to inthe00s tonight. It should hopefully fix any lingering issues people were having.
Valerie - January 15, 2007 - Report this comment
I guess my comment got lost on the old server and can't be retrieved. So as best I can remember, here's some of the things I was wondering about: 1. Is the change of server the reason why new misheard lyrics stories haven't been updated for a week or so? 2. Are any submissions from about that same period possibly lost and in need of being re-submitted? 3. Why are updates being shown for some pages (including celebrity lyrics, song mentions, and product mentions) on days when no new entries are actually added to those pages? And 4. Have some sections been abandoned or forgotten? Nonsensical lyrics, for example, was once one of my favorite sections, but now it hasn't been updated since August. Thank you.
JW - January 16, 2007 - Report this comment
Amiwrong is having some problems. After I finish a quiz, along with my results I get a lot of error messages. I also recently sent in misheard lyrics, guess I'll have to do that again.
Paul Robinson - January 16, 2007 - Report this comment
Chucky - didn't see the item when I came over to post late Sunday night, hope I didn't do any harm.
Valerie - January 16, 2007 - Report this comment
During the night, my computer went back to accessing the old site for a while, and now it is back to accessing the new site again.
Valerie - January 16, 2007 - Report this comment
By the way, while my computer was going back to accessing the old site during the night, I did retrieve my earlier comment. Here it is, just in case it covers any ground that my first comment here on the new site didn't -- I've noticed that some submissions are taking a long time to be posted lately. I don't think new misheard lyrics stories has been updated for over a week now. Are these delays a result of this move to a new server? Are any submissions likely to be lost in the move and in need of being re-submitted? Or are all submissions staying in the queue? And why are some categories (like celebrity lyrics, song mentions, and product mentions) showing updates even when nothing is being added to them? And are some categories forgotten? Nonsensical lyrics, for example, used to be one of the more amusing categories, but it hasn't been updated since August. Thank you.
ChuckyG - January 16, 2007 - Report this comment
ok. The problem with amIwrong is caused by the upgrades to the inthe00s server. I'm fixing that one, will take a few hours.

Some submissions take longer than others to be reviewed, based on how often the person who reviews them, works on those sections. The misheard stories generally only get done once a week, because JC only reviews misheard lyrics on the weekends. The nonsensical lyrics editor has apparently decided to stop working on that section, so I'll probably offer that to someone new. The move does mean that some sections might not get updated for a little while until I can get the username/passwords setup for the people who review them again.

I haven't tried clicking on Amiwrong in the past couple days or so...but I have been thinking of posting my first quiz on there sometime this week.
ChuckyG - January 17, 2007 - Report this comment
Just let me know if you find problems. That's the only help I need at this point. I think I've found all the bugs caused by the move. Any you find now, likely existed before the move.
nally - January 17, 2007 - Report this comment
Cool. As a matter of fact, I visited Amiwrong just a couple minutes after I posted my above comment, and everything was just fine there. Now it seems the board is in "maintenance mode" again now...and I have no idea how long that's gonna take, especially since the font was a bit larger at the top. It said there were some upgrades going on (or something like that).
nally - January 17, 2007 - Report this comment
It says "Still doing the upgrade..."
A. Member - January 17, 2007 - Report this comment
It should be fine now...I hope.

Certain non-English characters that were being displayed correctly on the old site are not being displayed correctly on the new site. See, for example, in artist summary for Tish Hinojosa, the misheard lyrics post for 'A La Nanita Nana', and in artist summary for Eydie Gorme Y Los Panchos, the misheard lyrics post for 'Melchor, Gaspar, Y Baltazar'. Can this be corrected so that characters not in the English alphabet can be displayed correctly again?
nally - February 17, 2007 - Report this comment
And so, one month later, here's what I find when trying to access the site:

Temporarily Unavailable
Due to high stress on the server the forum is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
ChuckyG - February 18, 2007 - Report this comment
the high load wasn't because the site couldn't handle the normal traffic, it's because a hacker got in and was overloading it trying to crack another site.
nally - February 18, 2007 - Report this comment
Ouch. That can't be good.
nally - February 18, 2007 - Report this comment
Now it seems I can't get there at all...I click the link, and instead of taking me to the messageboard homepage, my browser gives me a "Bad Request" error message. Does anybody know what's going on?
ChuckyG - February 18, 2007 - Report this comment
You missed the message last night/this morning. Because the site was hacked, I have to format the machine and re-install EVERYTHING. It'll be at least another 24 hours before the messageboard is back, maybe 48.
Below Average Dave - February 18, 2007 - Report this comment
This is terrible, whoever did it is scum. . .and this is what hackers brag about? I thought hackers were all about 'bringing down corporate blah blah blah'. . .there is nothing corporate about InThe00s, Karma is a Witch, and it will get him back, Chucky take as much time as you need, I will not submit new parodies until things are back up to lesten your load as much as I can. . .sorry this has happened to you, dealt with my share of hackers on past sites I have made, they can often be a nusiance.
nally - February 18, 2007 - Report this comment
Yes, I was out last night and didn't get home till almost midnight (pacific time). I, too am sorry this has happened...and I do wish you all the best in restoring everthing. Meanwhile, Amiwrong seems to be down too. (My browser gives me a similar error message when I try to go there.)

24 to 48 hours? :o I guess this means it may not be back up till Tuesday?? Oh well, that'll give me time to take care of the various important things in my life.
ChuckyG - February 18, 2007 - Report this comment
There's not a huge amount of parodies in the queue, so don't worry about sending some in. I'm too far behind at work to take the holiday tomorrow, so I'll be in and can use the distraction in the morning. Hackers brag about a lot, but in reality the so called "good" hackers died off five years ago once you could make money spewing out spam. They're all scum now.

amIwrong is unfortunately on the same server, along with two dozen sites I host for friends and family, stuff like Neal's picture gallery (and his cousin's as well).

I barely got any sleep last night because I couldn't stop thinking about the whole thing. On the plus side, Susan knew I was in no mood to go out shopping today as a result of yesterday so I got to stay in while she went out. That allowed me to finish proof-checking the misheard lyrics portion of the book. I figure I've only got a couple hours left to finish the rest now.

Please tell me the server wasn't hacked again. :'( The MB just went down on me as I was trying to submit a highscore.
nally - April 11, 2007 - Report this comment
Hey Chuck...I was just on the MB about five hours ago, and I got the SMF error message when I was trying to post something. I was just back there a few minutes ago and the same thing happened. I wish I knew what was going on?? (Sorry, but this comment thread is pretty much the only place I can post messages about it.)
ChuckyG - April 11, 2007 - Report this comment
I paid my hosting provider to upgrade the security of the server, and they screwed up the SQL server in the process. I have a support ticket filled out for it, and they say they are looking into it, but no luck so far.
ChuckyG - April 11, 2007 - Report this comment
It took them four hours to tell me they still don't see the problem I described. I'm not very happy. I've sent them another ticket showing them the problem. I think they upgraded the mySQL server improperly, and some of the tables became corrupted. I have a backup from Sunday (since I doubt they ran a dump before they "upgraded") that's probably what I'll end up using as a last resort.
