U2 vs. Negativland: the iPod Special Edition. Now available via auction (not on eBay, so it can't get shut down again). U2 is clearly very cool for having it's own iPod, but don't alter their "artistic vision".

When you read the full story of the parody issues involved not just with the Negativland single that inspired this, but also with U2 in general, the word hypocrit just screams out to me.

Yes... unfortunately, my favorite band is becoming rather irrelevant these days.... I guess I now know what it's like to be a Metallica fan. To U2's credit though, the Edge (unintentionally) had an impromptu conversation with Negativland over the phone shortly after the legal battles began. At the time of the discussion, it seemed that he sympathized with them, but he didn't really know what to say. It was as if U2 was admitting that they were being controlled by their label. This doesn't excuse U2's lack of indignation over the absurdity of the lawsuit or their subsequent use of unauthorized material themselves, but at least, it implies that U2 is not solely to blame. Island Records was being stereotypically bastardly, and thankfully, U2 has switched labels since. Maybe they can redeem themselves under their new label (Interscope) by not suing Mr. Hwang.

I always thought that the U2 iPod was the stupidest idea ever since they came out with it.

I don't know what the hell an Ipod is. It seems to be a music system that comes with songs already in it. All I know is I don't need one, and I'm tired of seeing them spammed about all over the internet. And the U2 commercial for one sucks. Word up, Mr. Mac. That affair with the sampling years ago was lame.

Hey! Cool name, man... The Fly is one of my all-time favorite U2 songs...
