The worst cover song in the history of mankind? I've heard a lot of brutally bad cover songs, but this one... Watch and listen as Def Leppard is subjected to the boy band treatment, complete with a rap section. Saccharine indeed. (Quicktime needed)

this is horrifying. i can't even begin to list all the things wrong with this video. luckily, the era of boybands seems to be over, so this will be laughed at by anyone with a working brain....

That's blasphemy!! This is worse than the thought of 50 Cent covering "Stairway to Heaven"! This would make for a great parody!

What a trip! And what a coincidence! I work at San Jose State, in the department of TV, Radio, Film & Theatre where this video was produced. Some very good stuff has come from our department. However, I was not a big fan of Townsend or boy bands in general. I have the Def Leppard CD and know how the OS should be done. If it's any consolation, Townsend broke up shortly after this video was made, so there won't be any more remakes from them.

Had to ask, Rick - is John Duncan any relative?

PS "who's birthday"?????
Mari D - September 01, 2004 - Report this comment
Phil: Yeah, I noticed that "who's" thing too, but Rick said such nice things about me. I introduced Rick to John Duncan and they were unable to find a connection. When I first started working there, John and I got the inevitable questions. I enjoy telling people that he's my -husband and have a great time watching their reactions.

Worst cover of all time? Let us not be like VH1 and say that "The 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs... EVER" is limited to 1980 to the present. After all, Pat Boone is going to heaven, but his records are absolutely demonically bad. Hearing him do Little Richard's "Tutti-Frutti" is like hearing GWB quote FDR: You need to get your ears washed out about 10 times afterward.
ChuckyG - September 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Yes, Pat Boones covers of "race records" in the fifties certainly earns him a place in any top 50 list. I think this one counts too, though I'm certainly happy to hear this particular band is long gone so they won't be heard from anymore.
