I really don't care for either of the artists, considering that both of their voices come from a box. I'm sure they have talent, don't get me wrong...they're just using the wrong one. There's a difference between the two. Duff..is for one..16 and has fallen into the blackhole that is pop music and has altered her image to match that of every other pop artist out there. Lavigne is 19 and has her own style. She writes her own music,plays her own instruments and does not need to lypsync. Not to mention that she refused to change her image to what the record companies wanted. So before you actually start bashing on her...you MIGHT just want to take this into consideration:Lavinge made it on talent....which is VERY rare nowadays

I've read the posts, and I just have to say on the topic of who can sing.......from what I've heard from live concerts, none of them are great singers. I would bet almost all singers have digitized voices. But, who gives a shit, they sing main for our soul entertainment. This Avril,Hilary,Lindsay battle thing is just like anyone else in the world fighting.The only reason anyone even cares bout it cause they've been on TV. It's amazing how, just because your face become projected on a televison screen everyone suddenly wants to be let in on your personal life. Hilary Duff is not going to turn out like Britney or Christina, but more like Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson. She's not a great singer, or a good actress, but the combination can keep her in fame for a long time. As for Avril Lavigne, she needs to be bitch slapped by her own fans.

I don't like either of them...Hillary is NOT a good actress, she may be a passable singer, but she doesn't write very good songs (if she writes them, which I doubt she does, but I'm not sure) if you ask me. I was watching an Avril Lavigne special on ABC family. She DID diss her fans whom were sweet enough to honor her by sending her neckties. Hey everybody!!! It's so beautiful in New York right now. I had such a great time yesterday at the VideoNow launch event at Toys R Us Times Square and want to thank everyone who came by to see me. I also wanted to thank Hasbro and Toys R Us for being such wonderful hosts. Can you believe that I had the rest of the day off? Well, I was killing time while my dinner cooked so I read this WHOLE thread. Sure is a whole lot of silly, pointless stuff here, but, hey, at least it keeps you all in front of your computer and not out getting into trouble...Anyway, I remember making a couple joking comments quite a while back here about promoting a boxing match between HIllary & Avril...still surprised the record companies haven't tried to do it...Avril Lavigne is still quite young but actually has the potential to be a significant artist and performer in the future. She has a wonderful voice (she's one of the few current popular singers who is able to display strong vocal range while still pronouncing the lyrics so you can understand them...listen to the stuff on the radio or MTV and see how many others can do that - you will not find too many.) She is also able to sing to different "moods", although she hasn't used that ability much so far, I expect she will as she gets more mature. In addition her 2nd album appears to at least be moving in the direction of adulthood. While the stuff that the Matrix did with her was very catchy it was important for Lavigne to move away from their stuff if she was going to grow at all as an artist. I think she made a very wise decision in teaming up an older and more mature writer (Chantal Kreviazuk) to collaborate with. Speculation, of course, but it seems to me that there is a pretty good possibility of Lavigne still being around and producing decent work 10 years from now. Time will tell...OK, that's all from me for now so you can all go back to the "She Sucks/No She Doesn't" remarks that populate about 95% of this thread. Have fun, kids...

True Hilary may be a pop idol, but some people assume the role of an idol so they can help people can aspire for higher things. One problem is that may people don't think on any level, intellectually, spiritually, or emotionally. Idols keep the order in society by influencing large masses (www.megatokyo.com). The songs of hers are very well written (if not by her) and she puts all of her emotions into them. If I'm not mistaken, she has the right to choose not to sing songs written by her crew. I really think the songs, that she chooses to sing are uplifting. Also if a song is not performed it is not a song, its a poem. Songwriting supports writers more than writing poems. The writers need her because of what she represents (hope, youth, uncertianty, and acceptence) and she needs the writers so she can carry a message effectively. Otherwise, she would be a a public speaker. I just like giving advice and reading how other people trash each other. I need practice in being objective with critzism if I want to go into making video games. (objective - Uninfluenced by emotions or personal prejudices) There are songs of avril that I like and songs of hilary that I like as well. I like the song Skaterboy but she could have done the music video better and made it more story like than the random array of pictures. I like Hilary as a songtress than an actress any day because the Lizzie McGuier is owned by Disney (I distrust now since Walt's gone). I would have never considered listening to her music if it hadn't been for this girl I made freinds with on my bus trip from Louisiana to Canada. So I listened to Hilary because I like to remember the Young Wind Dancer (my nickname for this girl) Now just because I perfer one person's songs over another does not mean I'm a fan of that artist it just means I'm a fan of the song. If your definition of fan is which song one listens to the most. then I would be a fan of Yumiko Kobayashi because I have been listening to her music the most lately. I can't belive some people here think Hilary Duff is the best thing that's ever happened. Her record label try to portray her as this good girl gone bad, with severely messed up hair and eyeliner that seems to be clogging up her vision. Here are several reasons why Hilary Duff is incapable of transferring from an annoying little Disney goody two-shoes to an even more annoying adolescent bad girl: 1) She wears fluffy pink dresses (ew) to movie premiers and then these black outfis to promote her album. 2) She says she doesn't want to be all look-at-me-I'm-this-huge-celebrity, yet she carries louis vuitton bags around and is into heavy bling-bling. 3) She pokes her nose into other stars' bussines, just to prove that her opinion counts (NOT!!) but when Avril rightfully calls Hilary a few bad names, guess what little miss Duff does? Instead of standing up for herself, she apologizes over and over again to Avril, saying that she likes Avril's music and she didn't mean anything by her comments. GEEZ! 4) To show how absolutely bad she is, she tries to throw Lindsay out at her Cheaper By the Dozen movie premiere. When other people come to Lindsay's side and says that she had a formal invitation to come, Hilary reverts back to little girl throwing a tantrum and drags her mommy along to confront Lindsay. Wow. 5) She dated Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, probably only to get some credit and to get fans above the nine year old age group to listen her music. But, her plan doesn't really work out because a few months ago, she went back to her cheating loser of an ex, Aaron Carter. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why Hilary Duff fails as an artist and an actor. Thanks for your time.

Basically, let me said that I'm a fans of both artists (I also love Lindsay Lohan). I could say that Hilary Duff already apologized to Avril Lavigne through an online magazine.
