This is so stupid, it really defies description. I've found some great unsigned bands through mp3.com, and purchased CDs that way. I'm sure the record companies are happy to see it go away though.

I found quite a few of my favorite indie bands through mp3.com. This really sucks.

Wow...my friend and I had stuff up there for years.... plus he had stuff from his other bands,,,, And there was no heads up at all about this from MP3.com. I think they could have gone about it differently...

If you stop and think about it...do you think a company that had purchased a website with "over a milliob tracks" would "wipe out" all of the material and "refuse to allow a backup copy" of the songs?...OR maybe they are just saying that. Where is the evidence of them "wiping out" the tracks.... They must still be somewhere in hard disk form.

Unless they also bought the physical server that hosted MP3.com, they didn't get access to the library. zvoidx is quite likely correct.

I second that... it's a good bet that zvoid hit it right on the money (no pun intended). Let's see what the furture holds.
