Why cant they all be cool like that one dude who was pounding his fist, heck we put up with their music why cant they put up with ours. So Rock On! Alien Ant Farm! P.S. Hello?!! it is BET not W.E.T. Why do white people get so offended and resents when a black person speaks up for something? I do think that white people do not have the right to be at anything that honors our music when you have a-holes like Kid Rock and Wierdo Al making a mockery of hip hop culture just to make a buck.
Jeff Reuben - June 29, 2003 - Report this comment
If you look at Weird Al (learn to spell) as someone "making a mockery of hip hop culture just to make a buck", you need to chill out. He does it to make people laugh. He certainly doesn't need the money at this point. I like hip hop, and enjoy listening to it.

OK KKK, That was not appropriate, I did not mean to start up a racist controversy, I just wish that racism on either sides would go away, In no way am I racist, and besides, andre1127,if your mad because "whiteys" make fun of your culture, how about when your " culture " makes fun of us, hello your not slaves anymore, you've got your freedom, you have just as many rights as the next person, so stop complainin' about respect. But I do like rap music, only certain kinds though, because I really dont care about how much bling you got. Regardless, Peace --- Ghetto John p.s I literally mean Peace!

Ignorance in its true sense... He just doesn't know what rap music is anyway thats why he makes pointless .. misunderstood comments.. I'm a 37 year old W Male that loves Rock music and I say . "Try to understand any culture and its people before you make comments like that."
Jonathan C. - June 30, 2003 - Report this comment
That would be like a bunch of conservative protestors at a gay awards show, (and I am not gay, not that there's anything wrong with that.) If AAF was just at the BET awards to make a video, fine. But they could have had a Plan B. And Ghetto John, why do you name yourself that when you are even from the ghetto?

Oh...it seems it's time for me to make some new friends! So AAF crashed a BET party. So what? Does anyone remember when ODB (That's Ol' Dirty Bastard) crashed the Grammys? Or when Fiona Apple completely DISSED the award she got on MTV? Rap music ain't racist. Yes, they use the N word too much, but seriously...do you honestly think DMX and 50 Cent and all the rest are out there in the hood? Ha! I have NEVER seen a housing project on MTV Cribs...that proves the color they prefer is GREEN. And rather than use the normal channels to make the green (which seldom work unless you take off your clothes, get arrested, or both), they stormed the crowd from the roof across the street. More power to 'em! I hope they get PAID! And Ghetto John...what ghetto are YOU from?

Wow, Ghetto John, where do you get off? An accusation of racism is not something to be thrown around lightly, especially seeing as you have no evidence at all about what Snoop or Nas thought about Alien Ant Farm. I've listened to Nas' "I Can," and while the history lesson is a bit confused, I see no racism involved anywhere.

I really do love it, either here or in the message board, when I have an oppinion and everyone bashes me. I try my hardest to write clean and half way sane parodies. Im sorry that vulgurness and what not isnt on my agenda. And Im truly sorry that this 18 year olds voice is not heard and respected. I might as well just leave or maybe I'll just stay so I can piss you off some more. Because even though this site is full of adults, you all really need to grow up. Quit being so easily offended and so quick to defend what you feel is vulverable. Cuz Im sorry but the term White boy is just as racist as Nigger. Or the fact that they blame the white race for the shit our ancestors put them through. I had no part in slave trade. And I certainly dont agree with it.. And as far as Nas and his I Can Be song, Im sorry but Egypt held slaves, Egyptians felt like they were the superior race. Pardon my French, I wouldnt want to offend anyone, I am not racist to people of any color, I am simply racist to racism. So all of yall need to just get off of my back. I hate that I stirred up such a argument. And Im sorry if you so happen to find 1000 grammatical errors. Truth is I have a few learning disabilities and Im not to good with english so back off. "Im sorry but the term White boy is just as racist as Nigger." No. It's not. The word "nigger" is so loaded, in a way that no racial slur towards white people could ever be, as offensive as you may find it. "Quit being so easily offended" Fair enough, but keep in mind that the argument was started by YOU being offended by Nas and his lyrics. "Or the fact that they blame the white race for the shit our ancestors put them through." I don't like that either. But I don't see it in Nas' song. If that's your interpretation, fine, but don't go saying that Nas is a racist solely based on the way you read it, or saying that Nas was offended by Alien Ant Farm because of his alleged racist beliefs. Like I said, accusations of racism are not to be thrown around lightly (though it has far too often already). Personally, I read that verse as an illustration of how powerful the African race was before imperialism destroyed the mighty kingdoms. His point isn't that Egypt was a perfect society, but that it was an important part of history that deserves to be mentioned alongside the Greeks and Romans.

I don't really see what the big deal is about crashing the BET awards anyway. I don't think Weird Al does it for the money either since you have to give a lot of the money to the artists and producers of the original song. That's why he does some original songs. I don't think Ghetto John is a racist or anything like that. I've seen the Doggie Fizzle and there is some racism. Like the wig out, to take the wigger out of your kid, etc. The only problem I have with Ghetto John is the fact he has to say "Peace" after every post. Oh and the 14-some parodies of BBC. Here's a new one: Peace peace peace Peace please. Maybe you can get your ranking to go one higher with that one. Great, now I'm ranting. I'll finish up by saying I like your parodies John-Peace!

Nas doesn't really know what he's talking about on that song. The sphinx's nose fell off due to erosion, not because Alexander was disgusted that they had black faces. And besides, Egyptians weren't 'black' in the sense that African-Americans are, they were dark-skinned but they weren't the same people.

I have made some rather dumb and thoughtless comments regarding this story. I have had so much on my mind, and I have been so hot headed that I havent been thinking things through. With my grandfather having cancer, and my girlfriend breaking up with me and about 7 other things that I am not really going to speak about, I probally sacrificed the respect of a bunch of people. I did not mean to come out as a racist, and I did not mean to portray myself the way that I did. I cannot tell you what inspired me to post my comment, and I am truly sorry. It seems that Im always the reason for these rediculously heated debates.
Educ8 - July 07, 2003 - Report this comment
Ghetto John: Not to beat a dead horse but...seeing that we formulate opinions based on first impressions, I believe you are racist. All of your comments have strong racist undertones, some are blatant. You always put the word culture in quotations when referring to black culture. Is that because you don't see black people as being cultured? It has always been my experience that the easiest way to spot a racist is to look for the person who says, "I'm not a racist, I have plenty of black/mexican/chinese/etc.. friends." Also, you stated , "heck we put up with their music why cant they put up with ours"
Educ8 - July 07, 2003 - Report this comment
-continued to Ghetto John- You don't have to "put up with" black music. You have the freedom to purchase and enjoy any music that you like! Also, out of respect for other people's opinions, you should refrain from using racist words in your posts. The "n" word should not be used by blacks, whites or any other race of people. Yes, rappers and other IGNORANT people use the word on a regular basis, but that does not make it okay. My skin crawls everytime I hear or read the word in any context. We all harbor some racist feelings and ideals not just towards other races but our own race as well. We have a long way to go before there will truly be any harmony amongst the races. Your ideas and words are not helping!
Ghetto John - July 07, 2003 - Report this comment

All I was saying is that racism on either side is rediculous, white boy is just as bad as N*****, Whitey is as well. sorry---Ghetto John.

To be fair, people weren't taken from their homelands en mass and enslaved because they were whiteboys; people aren't as commonly dismissed for jobs because they are whiteboys; there's no Southern organisation that drag whitey down roads on a rope attatched to car; i've never seen photos of signs that said 'De Strand, Slegs Negers' or 'No Dogs, No Whiteboys, No Irish', personally.
Educ8 - July 08, 2003 - Report this comment
Ghetto John: I don't have to know you to recognize racist comments. I do know that you had no problem throwing the "N" word in your comment. I do know that you feel you have to "put up with" black music. You said in your original post, "I have nothing against people who are black, I just hate it when they are racist toward people of other color." What about when white people are racist? Or Asian people? Do you feel that black people have no right to be racist? You asked who the hell am I to call you racist? I am a bi-racial woman (black and white) who has been the victim of racism all of my life. I get it from both sides. I have heard your comments before, from the mouths of other racists. So tell me, just how many token black friends do you have? And are they merely protection? Do you feel that other black people won't "go around doggin" you if you have a couple of Negros on your porch? If you are not a racist, why are you so upset by the accusation. If it is not true, shrug it off and keep stepping. Know yourself. I have been called the "N" word, half-breed and various other slurs but I know who I am. You can call me names but you will never break my spirit. I was born free and I work hard every day to maintain that freedom. I don't know you, your ancestors or their sins. For all I know, my father's family could have owned part of my mother's family. That is in a past that I may never know. I am dealing with my present and my future. I know that we (PEOPLE) have a long way to go. We all find excuses for our behavior and it has to stop.

Hoeveel - July 21, 2003 - Report this comment
I wouldn't say so, the reason why groups like MOBO and BET exist is because there's a feeling that black culture is underrepresented in the mainstream. It's not racist, it's 'seperatist' for a purpose, if they admitted white-culture acts that purpose would be defeated.

Tim - July 24, 2003 - Report this comment
@ Suburban Steve- not that I want to really get involved but if you do a bit of research you will find plenty of pics with signs that say "No Irish". The Irish immigrants where massively discriminated against in the 19th century. In fact indentured Irish persons where often used in the most dangerous jobs in the south because they had no monetary value. This is not in any way meant to belittle the struggles that afro-americans have faced either in the past of the present, but just to point out a slight inaccuracy in your comment. @ Andre2117-- Weird Al has always mocked POPULAR music, it's not his fault that hip hop and rap has become as commercial as it has. As to Kid Rock he is as legitamate as any other above ground performer out there. He isn't mocking rap at all, he is combining it with the other types of music he came up with to create a new form. It is a tried and true story, combining predominately white music with predominately black music to form a new genre, e.g., hall and classical music gave us Jazz, blues mixed with country gave us rock and roll. Kid Rock is combining rap and bad eighties metal help forge rapcore, which is yet to stand the test of time (and IMHO hopefully won't.) Oersonally I prefer the bluesier / country stuff he has been doing of late like the duest with Crow. PS I thought that the AAF crash was funny, and I'm sure that a fair amount of those in attendance did as well.

I was saying there were no signs that mentioned 'no whiteboys/whities' etc and i was using the 'No Dogs, No Blacks, No Irish' signs, that were common all over England in the '60s/'70s, as an example. My family is Irish so i do know a little bit about what the Irish have been through - even in my mother's generation they weren't allowed to have 'Catholic' (or Gaelic) names on Birth Certificates, as a mild example...my uncle is Sean but on his birth certificate he is John and my aunt Mairead is Mary on paper.

I just saw the video today and read all the comments about this parody. What I think about this whole situation is that it's not about AAF making fun or dissing BET. It's about just having fun and shooting a video. Sure, the authorities were furious...but as you browse through the video, you see people actually enjoying AAF. I really think that society is a bit messed up, but what can you do? The only way to end racism is for all the races to come together and not think of any slurs or situations or arguments that will spark that fire once more. It is all about the mentality of people, and if that mentality is erased, racism would cease to exist. And also, I am Asian and I could really care less about what people call me and how they treat me because I'm the one feeling sorry for them for not realizing how stupid they look and sound when they try to diss a person that is equal to them.
Chris - August 04, 2003 - Report this comment
Alright, I'll say right now that im a big fan of AAF, but this board has gotten less and less about the bands video and more about racism between blacks and whites. You can interpret this any way you like, but this is my opinion, not researched facts. Blacks were discriminated in the past, they still are being discriminated. Whites had easier in the past, but recieve discrimination now. In California, caucasians are pretty much a minority, and are discriminated as such. It happens everywhere, if you are the oddball out, then the blunt of the insults are on you. It happens to be so, that blacks arent as highly numbered throughout the U.S. as whites, and therefore get discriminated, and send discrimination back our way. Whites started the "racial wars" but its all of our responsibilites to end it. The earlier comments about blacks having harder times of getting jobs has me confused. Id like to think that blacks have an easier time of getting jobs with the minority laws that enduce rules at each workplace where they must emply a certain percentage of a minority. I know i will recieve many comments, but i dont think the word nigger is that bad. Ive heard black people saying "Hey my nigger" and the like to eachother. A white would get harassed or sued for saying such a thing, yet when a white gets called a wigger by a black, they could try and sue but chances of winning that case would be very slim. I apoligize for taking the sides of whites more, i dont meen to do so, its just thats the side i think i understand better. I live in a tiny racial town in Iowa, though i am not a racist. My family is racist, my friends are racist, everybody is. I dont have any black friends, because there is only one black family that lives here. I've talked to black people in chat rooms, and for the most part, i feel i get judged by them way too quickly. Ive had some call me whitey and tell me to shut up just for being white. I have seen whites do the same to blacks. As for AAF, i dont think they had much purpose being at BET, but it didnt harm anything. I do feel blacks dont get as much representation as whites, and therefore i dont mind them having there own channels that support only them. As a final note, why cant we all be like the Alley McBeal show? Blacks and Whites together, with no racism or slander. God Bless Alley McBeal.

i really doubt that when alien ant farm crashed the bet awards they were thinking about racism or anything like that. they were most likely just thinking about their music video and how much contraversy it would make if a bunch of white kids crashed the bet awards. i find the whole idea of bet awards ridiculous. not that i think that black people dont deserve awards for achievments, but its shows and channels that take black people and put them into a seperate categories from everyone else that start racism. no one deserves extra respect for their race. and oscars arent just for white people. what they did was cute and harmless. i doubt it hurt anyones feelings. if people didnt like their music, they didnt have to listen to i. do we tell people who are performing at the side of the road for an extra buck to go away or that their disturbing us? this isnt tht different. so they really made a large statement to get attention, i think the people at the bet awards were more amused by it then anything else. music cant hurt anyone so what was the problem?

I thought the video was awesome, and you could tell that for the most part people started enjoying it. It was the old-schoolers like Johnny Cochran and James Brown that were pissed. I don't see why you guys think BET is racist. Yea their are devoted to a specific community, but so is Univision and Telemundo. Are they racist too? BET is a forum for many non-black like Jon B., Fat Joe, Remy Shand (spelling?), and even NSYNC/Justin Timberlake. They show love to many different people, it sounds to me like many people here are just looking for an opportunity to stir up some of their own inner frustrations. And too the idiot that said Egyptians aren't Africans... did you forget what continent Egypt is on?

When talking about the Ancient Egyptians, they weren't the same 'race' as Nas. Nas is 'black' in the same way that people from Sub-Saharan Africa are 'black', as in Negroid. Time to grow up people, love each other or kill each other....what is your choice? Peace Art This guy knows what he is talking about. Everybody re-read this, because it should end the racism controversy over the music video. If you still dont believe it, then go here http://www.dapslyrics.com/2003/t/TheseDays-AlienAntFarm.html and read the lyrics for yourself. I dont sense any racism in this song. Throughout the song Alien Ant Farm says "Here's to love and friendship" and near the end they say "We'll be a real team". Well AAF, thats just obsurd! How dare you suggest friendship between blacks and whites by singing this song at the BET awards! (sarcasm in case you couldnt tell). If you want people want to complain about bands promoting peace between races you have some real problems to work out.

I thought the Alien Ant Farm videos was not only a great publicity stunt, but a strong foot towards anti-racism. if you take the words of song, "These days are grey, there's work to do ... it's something positive and negative too," the songs itself talks about racism, and how the world is treating it incorrectly. These days are grey and the united states is not the melting pot it intecded to be, istead it has become a mosaic, with differnt cultures and races, staying to themselves. Bet is a positive thing for black culture, they feel that mainstream culture is mostly white and that they are not acknowledged enough so they have created a channel dedicated to their culture. With this positve vive from the channel, it is also very negative in the fact that blacks in general feel undermined by main stream culture so they have segregated themselves by creating an all black channel. There is lost of work to do in the world today on all sides, by all races. p.s. "WET"... isn't that a porno channel, hehe

They're not racist, they're not jerks, they're just good guys having one hell of a time with life. Open your mind people and Ghetto John, don't worry about it. People are gonna think whatever and get offended by the slightest little thing constantly. People think I'm racist too since I don't listen to rap, or r&b or any of "my culture's" music. AAF wasn't trying to start racist outrage, they were giving BET award winners a free show and closing the gap between two totally different musical realms. Anyone bother listen to what AAF was singing? It was "Feeling Kin with nothing but hardship, Here's to love and friendship" BLack/WHITE/Brown/Yellow/red/green/swirel PRIDE! Peace out yall, I'm done.

:P I feel a lot of people were being too hard on Ghetto John, like saying he only has black friends for protection, god, that's the kind of attitude the world doesn't need. You see, I'm the white guy who gets offended when any racism is going on, and I try to speak up about it and am always slammed as just trying to be "down", I hate that. What? I can't find it offensive that people of my species are bashing each other because of their skin color? I can't find that disturbing? I mean I don't see my cats beating the crap out of each other because one is gray and the other is white&tabby mixed. I find that people use race as an excuse to do poorly in life, I think that's bullshit, get a job.
Steven - August 12, 2003 - Report this comment
It's pretty clear that AAF wasn't trying to be racist. They "crashed" a number of other events for their video, including a gay rights parade. Did anyone bash them as homophobic? The BET attendees were just as enthusiastic as those taking place in the parade. As for the actual channel, it does something to promote racism when something like BET exists. I understand that part of the reason for it's existence is to spread knowledge of African-American culture, but the said channel segregates blacks from everyone else. Some videos on BET are racist towards whites. I can't remember specifically, but in a video I saw recently, the only caucasians in the entire thing were two cops--shown at first eating donuts, then chasing down the black rapper. That said, there are plenty of black stereotypes and misconceptions promoted by white culture as well. But if black people want to end racism, they shouldn't carry it out themselves. You may say that only a small number of blacks are doing this, but the same is true for white people. Very few of us are racist against African-Americans. I grew up in a fairly even neighborhood, moved to a primarily black area, and I now live in a primarily white community. I am not and have never been racist. What I do believe is that black people that have tons of jewelry, wear extremely baggy clothing, and rap about slappin' hoes and such are jackasses. However, I also believe George Bush is a jackass, and he's certainly not black. My final point is that black people don't have trouble in most of American society today. Sure, there may be discrimination in primarily white areas that haven't quite advanced into the 21st century yet, but in lots of primarily black areas, whites are discriminated against just as much. Black people might even have advantages, with things like affirmative action--but that's a different argument. AAF was not in any way racist, so those of you who jumped on this as an opportunity to spread awareness of how white people are out to get blacks, shove it.

This is pretty ridiculous.... I didn't see the awards... but it looked to me like everyone was smilin. Didn't Brian McKnight smile and raise his hand... didn't Lil Jon (or somebody) take they shirts off and jump around like they were front row?? It certainly looked like the seated crowd felt it. It was just a stunt. Everybody chill. It was just an original idea, probably made up by someone like Spike Jonez... to produce an entertaining video. Why's everyone over analysing? Just chill. Ol Dirty crashing the Grammys was WAYY worse... It wasn't offensive music... and I bet you all there was a positive message behind the whole thing. AAF probably giggled like little schoolgirls when they heard the idea for the video - there was no malice. BET... seriously I don't get how it slips by. I understand the forum and the audience is obviously there... but "Black Entertainment Television"?? Yeah... it dodgy. I guess it's no different than Greek channels etc. White people just couldn't get away with it though. "White Entertainment Television" - that'd never fly. The guy who comes up with that is gone get shot! :) Don't front like NBC should be called "WBC"... that's bullshite... Al Roker wouldn't have a bar of it!! :)

AAF they were cool for crashing the BET awards I don't think people were being bias they were probably thinking for a moment "Hmmm a rock group on top of a building singing." It's not somethin' you see everyday when an award show is taking place. I also have to say that it did seem like the people were enjoying the music no one looked up with screwed faces. I just saw the video for this..unbelieveable..totally smuing and definitely original. I had to check the story because i wasn't sure if the vid was staged or not. anyway..please read below.. Ant Farm Meet Diddy, Nelly Guerilla B.E.T. Awards gig results in star-packed clip Smooth criminals P. Diddy, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Lil' Kim, Brian McKnight, LaToya Jackson, Mike Tyson, Johnnie Cochran, and Magic Johnson are among the stars who make cameos in Alien Ant Farm's new video for "These Days." The celebs were filmed outside the June 24th B.E.T. Awards at Los Angeles' Kodak Theater as AAF played the first single from their upcoming album TruANT on a roof across the street. "We crashed the red carpet," frontman Dryden Mitchell says. As the amused nominees and attendees looked up at the rockers, director Marc Klasfeld, the man behind the band's "Smooth Criminal" video, caught them on tape. The band then received clearance from all of the celebs to use their image in the video -- no one said no. The initial shipment of TruANT, due August 19th, will include a DVD. "It tells the story of what happened to us in the wreck," says guitarist Terry Corso of the May 2001 tour bus accident that left Mitchell almost paralyzed and the bus driver dead. "There's a lot of photos from the accident and we did a big interview and talked about it," he adds. "It's not all about that -- it's a rough timeline of what we did in that twenty months of being on tour before the wreck. Of course, it centers on that because it's pretty profound." The DVD packaged with the album is just is "just a teaser for the real deal," Corso says. "We're working on a DVD now. It's gonna be some live performances, and probably a lot of our stupid steam-blowing antics. Sometimes we drink, like, a beer and get a little crazy." KAREN BLISS (July 25, 2003) The only ones to upstage the rap giant didn't exactly do it fairly, considering they weren't officially a part of the festivities. Alien Ant Farm interrupted the red carpet flow by playing their new single on a rooftop across from the Kodak Theatre almost three times in row before cops shut them down. The performance was filmed for the band's new fish-out-of-water-themed video. (Click here for photos from the video shoot). AAF left many on the carpet speechless, but not Killer Mike. "This is amazing," he said, pumping his fist to the tune. "Tell these guys I want to tour with them! "First they stole Michael Jackson's single ['Smooth Criminal'], now they're stealing LaToya Jackson's final moment in the spotlight," Mike added, joking about the Jackson sister who curiously made media rounds at the show. lyrics to THESE DAYS These times are great There’s work to do Would you like to work with me I’d love to work you These days are great And so are you I think it’s something positive Hexed in love and friendship Feeling kin with nothing but hardship Hexed in love, floating shame Feeling kin with nothing but hardship Here’s to love and friendship, here’s to love and friendship Blessed in shine and luster Beaming rays to find skin and warm Shine… rays… to my skin and I’m yours Here’s to love and friendship, here’s to love and friendship These times are great There’s work to do Would you like to work with me I’d love to work you These days are great And so are you I think it’s something positive and negative too We’ll be a real team, we’ll be a real team I told you… I figure if all these artists didn't have a problem with the awards being crashed.. why should any of us regular people. we're not the music stars..it wasn't our party. who gives a crap..there are more important things to be concerned about. read the reports. the only ones making a big deal about this..seem to be the people who weren't at the party..who aren't the stars. like seriously.. if the stars don't care.. why do you guys care so much? it makes no sense. they all probably went home to their rich pads..and forgot all about some rock band singing on top of the roof. a lot of them found it amusing. it's not like they disrupted the ceremony..they were just on the roof.. they didn't even touch the red carpet itself. this is all very silly and it's not even about some rock band "crashing" the red carpet anymore lol..there are issues appearing out of nowhere that have nothing to do with AAF playing on top of the roof during the arrival of the stars on the red carpet at the BET awards. if all the members of AAF were black..would it have been so wrong? i mean is everyone here making a big deal because they were white? because they played rock? or what? there are rock bands with black people in them yah know..rap artists (white and black) use rock in some of their material and rock artists (black and white) use rap in some of their material too. but anyway.. read the reports..read the lyrics..put it to rest.

I thought the video was great. I agree that most of the people at the BET awards seemed to enjoy the performance after initial shock. But I think anyone who believes that equality exists, or reverse discrimination exists, is seriously deluded. Educate yourself my friend. I'm not saying anyone can fully understand anyone else's position in life because half of who you are is what you experience. But I think if you don't TRY to understand, you will be ignorant. Honestly, the 14th amendment did not suddenly change anything. Jim Crow laws were activated in place of slavery for over a century, maybe even still today in some places. De facto discrimination exists EVERYWHERE. The Civil Rights Movement in the 60s changed a lot, but you don't really think it just erased inequality? Please do not settle for what we have now. We should always be striving for more and more progress-not to discredit prior progress, just to understand that no society is ever "finished". Of all groups, African-Americans have suffered the most in the short history of this nation. (Although other groups, i.e. Hispanic/Latinos are swiftly catching up in the experiencing of discrimination). To grant them a CABLE television show to celebrate their own history/culture in resistance to the dominant white culture is nothing. I don't know if you know that BET is NOT only a music station either-it compiles news, gospel, etc all on one channel. And if you actually believe that media representation is equal between whites and all other races, that's absurd. It's not only numbers that matter, its the substance of representation. Anyway, I didn't mean to lecture. These are just a lot of things that came to mind as I was reading. I hope not to offend as well, because I don't think that is the right way to approach such things. I'm finding it hard to believe that some of you say you support the video because you are obviously not supporting its message. In other words, I can't imagine the boys of Alien Ant Farm would enjoy the comments you are making...nor anyone who was a tiny bit educated. No doubt there is much discrimination that is not based on race, i.e. classism and sexism. But you can't just discount things and say they don't exist because you haven't experienced them-you have to listen to people who have.

If you are looking for someone to blame for all the "hate" out there, look towards those jack-booted thugs who broke up the festivities. I can hardly imagine an official "complaint" coming from the good folks on the ground. So why arrest AAF? It's simple...because they were bringing folks together and that simply won't work in our modern day police state. Resist ALL attempts to divide our country, whether it be from David Duke or Johnny Cochran...these people thrive on building walls between us. Hi I'm a black girl living in Europe and I just watch the AAF video. I don't see anything offending. Some people were pissed but I also saw people smiling. I don't understand how some people who wrote on this website can see an insult to African-American culture. How would you have reacted if it were a "black" band doing the same thing? Racism is stupid but every culture is, prejudice exists in every single culture. Someone talked about NAs lyrics and it's true that the verse about the sphinx is incorrect but that does not make him a racist. You know, black people were slaves at one time and we should never forget that and all the problems they had to go through but I think it's time to move on. Some of you are black and some of you are white but you have one thing in common: you're American. I'm really sad when i see that decades later, blacks and whites are still arguing about such things because that's not like this that America can be strong and united. All cultures represented on the american soil is rich and people should put all these differences in common rather than live separetely. Last thing I wanted to say, why make such a fuss about the fact that there's a channel dedicated to African-American culture. There are plenty of other channels like the Greek one that do not talk about something else than Greece and no one is offended by that. P.S: If I've made spelling or grammar mistakes, please excuse me but you see French is my mother language

I am a black man form BK, flatbush. I grew up listening to nothing but hip hop, but after seing the aaf video and listening to the song, it sparked an intrest and apprieciation for alternative music. The issues they write about are very diverse. It doesn't seem like they write songs with lyrics that foolish and only written to make money. It seems deeper than that. Creativity!

As Diane says above, slavery did happen and noone will ever forget that, but we have evolved as people and become somewhat better than that. Despite those who are still too narrow minded to get passed rascism and and over-powering superior race. To those people, why can't you just grow up and develope a new way of thinking! But to those Affrican Americans, sorry for the past! But we are all just trying to co-exist with one another, it wasn't meant as an attack lets try to be more understanding.

*~THIS IS THE CORRECTED COMMENTS OF AKADEMIKS~* I think what A.A.F. did at the B.E.T. awards show was f*ckin' cool and I don't think racism has a G*d D@mn thing to do with their performance or the B.E.T awards at that. If you hate somebody cause of their color you ain't nothing but a coward. Why can't we all just get along? Oh, wait, we live in america, that will never happen. This is not the land that GOD created for us so we should all take the time to sit back and straighten our selves out before we cast a stone upon others. If you want another opinion what M.T.V did to Johnny Cash was really messed up I know he is no Justin Timberlake or Snoop Dogg but he has made great music and has paved the way for alot of todays artists wether it be rap, country, or rock and roll and that is only to name a few. But then again it goes to show that M.T.V doesn't know good music when they hear it and if they did they would just play it out like all of the rest of the music they play on their station. I listen to all kinds of music from Micheal Jackson to Alien Ant Farm to Limp Bizkit to 50 Cent and thats only a few of the muscians I listen to. And by the way Nas's Video is only speaking the truth so if you can't handle the TRUTH change the station. If you would like to comment on anything send them to akademiks1283@yahoo.com

why didn't anyone mention the fact that BET is owned by a white man? also, the nose on the sphinx has fallen off many times, because everytime they replace it, it's replaced with a rock or mineral that is not as structurally sound as the rest of the sphinx and therefore making it easier to break or crack.

all i gotta say is to the people who were saying the BET awards were honoring HIP HOP...bullshit BET is almost ALWAYS playing rap and r&b, poor excuses for a culture that is truly amazing. i'm sorry to say this but i'm sick of black people thinking that they own hip hop, that if any black rapper makes music he is automatically a HIP HOP artist, it doesn't work that way. half the people they play on BET are horrible, as well as the people who attend their awards...and i'm not white, but i am sick of blacks still acting like whites are SO ignorant and SO racist, if anything there are too many people trying to be black, not shunning it. discrimination against gay people is much more recent and i NEVER hear gays complaining and trashing straight people the way blacks do whites. the same with jews. so GET OVER IT.

I have sat here and read about half of the posts here. Let me begin by saying that EVERYONE is a racist. No one can say that they are not. There is always at least one person or one group of people that people are racist againist. While I don't see anything wrong with that Alien Ant Farm did, someone has to always get pissed off because a white rock band "crashed" a black entertainment awards show. It isn't like they set up on the stage inside the awards show and played. With this being said, i have heard plenty of rap music and even heavy metal music that has racist remarks, and no, I am not speaking of rap music that uses the word "nigger." Always go back and think of what George Carlin says. You take the word Nigger. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the word Nigger in and of itself. It is the racist asshole that is using it you need to be concerned with. We don't care when Eddie Murphy or Richard Pryor use it. Why? Because we know they are not racist. There Niggers. I know I am going to be called a Blue Eyed Devil, White Devil, Honkey, Cracker, or other racist terms, but it is just words. Words can't hurt no one. I think the majority of the posts on this page are bullshit.

In the song i heard them say things like "we need your help" and "would you like to work with me, because I'd love to work with you" where anyone can get racism from is beyond me, and BET is in no way honoring black culture, its honoring Music, thats it. Yeah everyone that raps is Black but I did see Bubba Sparxxx there. When did he become black? There are 2 kind of people in the world of Music. The ones that listen to the beat or watch the video, and the ones that listen to the words and the content. Its obvious which type most of you are...that was fun.

i have to agree with the sandman when he says that everyone is a racist. i don't think of myself as a racist, though, cuz i hate everyone. it doesn't matter what color you are, or aren't, you're still human, which makes you stupid, which means i hate you. i hate everyone equally, especially, if you annoy me, or piss me off, or breath. that last one was a joke, but no one will get it cuz too many people lack a sense of humor. oh well, i guess that's another reason to hate humans. at least your pets laugh at you when you make jokes. and yeah, if you read any article interviewing the lead dude, it was about crashing the biggest event. they were gonna crash a spin class or something like that first, but then checked the schedule, and saw the BET awards, and thought what bigger event could there be than this. and they commented on the lack of security because they were there lugging stuff around all day long, and no one asked the who they were, and why were going to the roof. and they did get arrested, but were only issued citations, instead of being charged with something. and i'm black and white mainly, with a bunch of other stuff.

Hey, I just say "These Days" this morning, and so I went for info on it, since I never saw anything about it in the papers. I'm glad AAF didn't get arrested, coz I love their music and that video in particular. It's been pretty much established that AAF wasn't being racist, and I agree. My comment is on the BET is racist thing and on Snoop Dog. I can't say for sure, but I don't think Snoop Dog is racist, because at the MTV awards he admitted that he like Johnny Cash' music and hoped he'd win. Also he was playing along with Adam Sandler (I love that guy) say fizzle and shizzle and all those 'izzles. About the BET awards...maybe the hosts of the shows and the people who watch it are racist, I dunno- I know I'm not. I thought you all should know this little, or not so little fact. BET is no longer owned by a black manis sponsered by a white company. The founder of BET sold the station to the company Viacom. He also has a contract with Viacom that will allow him to stay as chairman and CEO for five years. This all happened in 2001. Anyways, all the strings are pulled around by this Viacom company which owns other stations such as MTV, VH-1, UPN, and CBS. Lol. I dunno about you, but I found this to be interesting. In fact I'm still laughing at the irony of it. Oh, and if you want proof, here's a link: http://www.kccall.com/News/2002/1213/Entertainment/ That's all I have to say. Arf! (i'm french, sorry for the language) i like BET, i did my first vidéo overdose on it ! during the last 7 years ! (teenage years for me) i was always watching BET ! so i was inspired to listen particulary black music ! In 7 years, BET don't change and i think it gone bad ! they don't work the eclectic thing ! not open minded ! the purpose is to entertaining by representing black culture, ! nowadays it's universal , medias tv, magazines don't work on the skin values, there are lot of good artists singing R&B; Rap ! BET work with skin values ! during 7 years, i noticed less of 5 artists no blacks. BET get the results of the popular things ! it was just the second ceremony ! AAF , i'm not a fan, but i think they react on this way ! it's not a colour problem. just the fact to not being eclectic , learning to know who are around them ! music is so various, someone can't listening the same kind of music all time, and THAT is entertainning ! BET have recently power to make awards and broadcast like MTV, but the difference is that MTV is eclectic (in some ways). BET is in evolution , and should think how to make broadcasts who represent black music culture AND give an open door to other kind of music ! Peace everybody ! music make us become ONE ! Feel

Ghetto John, I am not a racist niether am I opposed to AAF being at the BET Awards. I think that every person has the right to their opinion and so did the people who felt some type of way about him being there. And for you to say that Nas and Snoop are racist you must then say, Elvis Presley was a racist. He came out in the open and said that he'd rather stop make music than to have a "nigger" dance or play his music. Never has Snoop or Nas said that. In Nas' song "Be what I wanna be" he was not referring to the white man being the "devil" but how black people should be proud of what we are and what we have accomplished. We are in some ways held down by the color of our skin, but that was very far from the message of the song. Have you ever notice that white inventors get more recongition that blacks? You know who George Washington is, but do you know who George Washington Carver is? Probably not! That's because in most schyools they don't teach. Even though it is a vital part of history! George Washington Carver invented peanut butter, soap, and opened the first public library. Garrett Morgan invented the traffic light a device that we use everyday and that saves lives. As well as the fisr gas mask. Madam CJ Walker invented the straightining iron and the perm. Daniel Hale Williams was the first person to EVER perform an open heart surgery. And more important of all go to Washington, D.C. and look up the presidents, there you will find that the fisrt president ever was a black man. Don't believe me look it up! The history books will never tell you that! Because it was a black man. I am not racist, in fact I'm mixed, and my roomate is white. I think that you need to think before you react! Know the facts! Next time you want to make a statement about black people make sure that you try to walk in the other persons shoes.

I think that this has been way blown out of proportion. They did what they did for shock value not to be racist. On top of that I'd like to say that I agree that BET is a great way to open people up to a different cuture, and it's a great thing. But how many people here would be seriously mad if there was a WET? Sometimes before you get mad on either side you have to look at it from both ways. I also think Nas wasn't trying to exclude anyone. I think a man writes an anthem type song, and because he's a black man, people get all up in arms. And because a AAF a white band, crashes the BET awards it's automatically racist. I think people are so quick these days to point the finger at the white man just as much as the black. Get over it. When MTV first aired they did not play one black artist for 2 years. Then Michael Jackson came along and changed that. At the time BET was created. it was a place where black music can be heard. BET is not a racist channel, it's a channel celebrating black history and black culture. I don't think that they felt like AAF was being racist, but just took it a step over the line. I think it was tight personally. But how long wdid it take for black people to get their time to shine. It's like now being"black" is cool it's a fad. It shouldn't be that way. I say listen to what you want. I listen to everything from R&B to Country. And Ken for you to say Rap sucks dick would be to say that Limp Bizkit, Sum 41, and Kid rock suck dick. Where do you think they got it from? Or Eminem for that matter? You should then make up your mind either you like rap, Eminem ect. or you don't? I do understand that white have contributed to our everyday lives but then you have to admit to yourself that so have black people. we ARE just people, no matter what color skin we have. So, just look at the history of your music and tell me who influenced it?

Couple of facts: Their were white slaves along with black slaves. Blacks were easier to identify if they escaped their master and you could capture them in large numbers in Africa, thus white slaves dissappeared. Racism started based on money. Napolean blew off the nose of the Sphinx. Because he was bored and wanted to disrespect people. Not due to being black. Nas' song was ignorant of facts. Black media banks on black seclusion, as White media banks on slutty preteens. AAF disrupted the BET awards, because it was funny. Color wasn't involved. Hopefully they'll do it to the Grammy's also. They deserve it. Awards shows are media celebrations of being media. It's more ways for them to make money off of people who blindly follow them. Check your facts!

It kills me when a white guy can "explain" WHY slavery occurred and how there were white slaves too, but denies that American slavery's effects are still evident today, or that he/she has any connection to it. White slavery shouldn't even be a relevant issue to white americans because as white Americans they NEVER suffered any government-sanctioned socioeconomic and psychological setbacks (as a race) because of white slavery in this country. Its easy to say "get over it" - as a matter of fact it would be a great healing power if Blacks could just SAY that. But how can it be said when the effects of it are still marginalizing Blacks? Do not allow white guilt to prevent you from standing with Blacks under the banner of understanding.

When applying for a job, he is not likely the candidate, not because of skills sets, but because of government and or corporate stipulations favoring people of "ethnicity". Same goes when applying for a college scholarship. The effects of slavery are evident today because they are allowed to be evident, because they are used to fall back on. Dipolomew, LISTEN! When you say that "White Americans NEVER suffered any government-sanctioned socioeconomic and psychological setbacks (as a race)" You are lying. Well did you ever start to think that if there was'nt racist peole in America there would be no need for Affirmative Action? And as far as them not having as many rights that's bullshit. You have everything, schools will except you over ethnics, jobs, and banks. You say that Nas was being ignorant, how? He said that we were Kings and Queens is that not right? He said that we invented the first schools call Kush, was he wrong? White slaves were poor people who did not believe that "niggers" should be slaves so they themselves were forced into slavery. The first slaves were Indians. The "Americans went over to Africa and promised them that our people would be taken care of in the new land, and offered them money for people. The Africans were not aware that they were going to be sold, beat, and degraded. Tell me how long did white slavery last? You say that all BET is, is smoking, drugs, hoochies, gangsta's, killing and having children out of wedlock, but let me ask you this have you ever seen The Godfather, GoodFellas, Reservior Dogs or Scarface. Were they not doing drugs, sniffing cocaine, have premarital sex, selling drugs for money, and killing one another. While I'll admit two wrongs don't make a right, you can't down talk rap music until you chastise you own for your wrong doings. Are your parents married? Grandparents? Siblings? Aunts and Uncles? I'm sure they all aren't. You want a perfect world and sorry to say it will never happen. are you against Fred Durst, and Kid Rock? How about Eminem? Vanilla Ice? Because if you don't like rap, that would make them all a bunch of wiggers huh? You don't consider yourself a racist however you dilike BET and rap music. Do you like R&B? Or is that too "Black" for you too? The bottom line is I have no problem with them being there, however the same way you don't like Rap or BET you have to respect the fact that everyone was not amused. You have opinions and so do they! And Ken wouldn't it be pretty un-American and impossible for you to kick me in the crotch. Are you mad because I said what I said and can back it up? You are the reason the word "nigger" was made. You truely are an ignorant person. In both aspects of the word. You need to sit down and read a black history book. And FYI the Scottish, Dutch, Italian, and Jewish are NOT white! How dare you try to make your ancestors seem like they have suffered as much as we have. Has any of you relatives past or present suffered like the people in my family have? The Jewish and African people were never to be "Americans". We have suffered. Not getting a job or a scholarship is not suffering! You are probably a spoiled whit boy who has never met a black person a day in his life, and probably are afraid to. You are racist and ignorant, and you are one of the reasons racism still exist! The first murder ever was a white man named Kane who killed his brother Abel. And what about Charlie Manson, Ted Bundy and the Columbine kids. They were all white. Was that Gangster? To go_greenley and others. Dont group me with all these rap is crap idiots for saying this first off. I enjoy all forms of music or any other form of entertainment im not like the ignorant masses who live life by a label without even realizing it. Anyways now my point. Some of the things people like ken are saying are true. Affirmative Action DOES hold back whites nowdays especialy males, it is often a bad thing and its just us weighing the scales a bit to far once again. One group does an injustice to another so we try and make up for those mistakes.....which leads to more mistakes and an injustice to a new group. My cousin had straight A's and didnt miss a single day of school from 6th grade all the way through High School. He was accepted to the University of Michigan just to be told right before school started he couldnt attend after all that they had to accept another African American student instead. So my cousin had to switch schools last minute because someone with lesser grades(they told him this was the case)was a certain skin color. I think that AA was a good thing for many many years and was needed. However now its simply unfair in most cases. I think AA is still a good thing to have around but not nearly to the same extent and it needs to be modified and in about 10 years maybe 20 it needs to be gotten rid of all toghter. This goes beyond schooling and jobs though. As others have pointed out if there was a WET people would scream racism yet BET is ok. There are colleges meant to be for blacks but you couldnt do that for whites, if a group of kids formed a club that was only for whites they would be racist but one only for blacks acceptable. You can go through and find sooo many damn examples like this. Want some more? Black comedians make white jokes constantly but if a white guy did that.....racist. At many schools if a white kid was reffered to as white bread, cracker or even honkey no one would care but use the N word and your in some deep ****. People who ignore this and think blacks are just this poor abused group nowdays are just as ignorant as those who think racism towards blacks doesnt exist at all or says stuf like rap is crap. Finally about Slavery. People hang on to it to damn much. Slavery for many years has just been a fact of life. We enslaved Africans yes and it was terrible. Yes after being freed they were treated horribly and yes to this day it can be a problem. However to act like white people have no say in any of this because we were the oppressors is ignorant. First off in Africa for an ungodly number of years Slavery was commonplace. People quoted Nas's song here which makes me laugh. Nas is one of those people who talks about roots and tries to stay close to the culture but ignores the negative things. In the song he talks about Timbuktu(sp?)and how people went there to learn and get books. But ofcourse he like everyone else ignores that slavery was commonplace in Egypt in that time and had been forever. Before you go to preach to some white kid about what HIS ancestors did maybe you should think about what your ancestors did and that maybe it was just karma biting that group in the ass for their evils. So to wrap it up, everyone has an equal say. A white guy who is educated on this stuff will know more then someone who is black and doesnt. Skin color isnt important and the more people freaking hold on to it the longer racism will be a problem. This doesnt mean we should forget the culture nor that we should get rid of AA just yet. It does mean that people should STFU about being oppressed all the damn time and not be like Nas who only pays attention to the parts of his culture he wants. And so should alot of the ignorant crap coming out of some of the white posters mouths here.....id give some examples but I ignore these guys because their beyond ignorance.

Damn people, I'm from halfway around the world (Europe - Slovenia), but it still seems to me that this democracy thing isn't working for you. Everyone of you has made his own little private democracy, based on his culture, beliefs and music style he prefers. And still it seems that the whole black-white-...insert your own nationality/colour of skin... thing isn't over by far. Yeah, yeah rap is great and Alien Ant Farm (that IS the topic, remember) are too...and there are still special awards for black artists? And then everybody (black) is upset because some white rock group plays a song and bothers their musical majesties and then everyone that is white starts accusing them of racism. And the circle is closed. And everybody is OK with that? Can I expect to be called a stupid Slav and an ignorant ass because I don't see things as any of you does?

MSI Magus I agree with most of what you said. I feel that Nas wasn't neglecting the negative side of our history but bringing a side of history that was unheard of. For man years we weren't allowed to have pride, to have rights, to have a voice. We were always thought of as poor, ignorant dumb "niggers". I know that there was slavery way before the "Europeans" brought us to "America". However, it was not as popular as it grow to be. The slaves in those times where usually people who had dishonored that family, country or commit crimes. That was their jail. As far as Afirmative Action goes. It is needed, and in some cases may not be fair. But ask yourself this, if you were a balck female or black male would you really want to get a job just because of the color of your skin? Like your not worth a damn, your just a legal clause. I am bi-racial. I am white, black, and indian. I know of all three struggles. I think that the "white man" should have a say in history and have an opinin, but they will never have the same out look on life. They have never endured what we have and that is always going to be a fact. We were not allowed to to eat where we wanted, drink where we wanted, sit where we wanted and for a long period of time vote. Our churches were burned down to crush our spirits. Where do you think that Gospel music originated? From slaves. I do share many points wit you but we are treated unjust. Would you want a girl to be with you just because your rich? No, just like I wouldn't want a job just becasue I appear to be black. I wasn't personally affected by aaf being there I actually thought it was cute. But do you think that if Snoop showed up at the country awards that they would feel some type of way? You say that black people would feel some type of way if there was a WET network? So what do you call VH1 and MTV. Although now they play rap and r&b, they originated as an all white station, therefore BET was created. MTV was created in like 1981 or 82. They played rock, soft rock, alternative, and pop. They didn't start playing rap and r&b until BET was created. So there was a WET whether you want to admit it or not. I think that cracker, white bread, off white, etc are offensive words, however the meaning is not as strong. Nigger, porch money, and jiggaboo are what we were called and still are. Neither of tese words should be said but there were far more people calling us niggers than there are or was calling ya'll crackers. The word has a more power meaning yuo have to admit that yourself. The next thing that you will bring up is that we as balck people call our selves Niggas. That word originated from the word nigger, but we took a negative and made it into a positive. And people from all ove the world did come to Africa to learn many skills and trades. Last but not least, for 400 years "White Americans" laughed at "niggers". So why is it so offensive when we laugh at ya'll. And I have heard white comedians joke about white people. Watch Comic View on BET @10:00 pm eastern time, and see white comedians make jokes. Here's something that will shut ya'll up about BET and WET did you know that BET is owned by a White man?

How can you say he was bringing up a side of history thats unheard of? We hear all the time the positive side of African roots.....people talk like everyone is a king and queen and over do that positive side. We NEVER hear the negative side. Yes its a positive song so he didnt need to bring it up in the song but much of what was in the song also didnt need to be brought up and he and many others strike me as overally proud of their roots. They focus on the positive and ignore the negative. Its like being German and trying to pretend there was never Nazi's. I disagree with the rest of what your saying to, just because your black it doesnt mean you know more. Not every Black person is going to have a horrible struggle id guess now most wouldnt. Hell were I grew up the black kids were by far the most popular and it has carried over into our adult hood. Not once did I EVER hear any of them called Nigger or any racist remarks not once. Yet iv been called white bread, honkey, freak etc etc more times then I could count. I think in some places blacks still have a struggle but its not as bad as you or many others want to make it out to be. You make it sound like its still the 50's and your struggling with day to day life. Sooooo many people take this attitude and its so damn far from the truth. See thats the difference between me and you and many others. Im speaking in the present, im seeing things for what they are and trying hard to be fair and move on. Your clinging to the past and CANT move on. You continue to pick at the same scab and refuse to let it heal. What do I call MTV and VHI? VH1 I call old peoples network thats trying to slowly modernize. MTV I call a damn good mix of white and black......and not enough rock! MTV is like 40% pop 40% R&B/Rap now. If you think MTV is for white people only you havnt been watching it obviously. And MTV played Rap long before BET was created I believe and if they didnt it was long before anyone knew what BET was. Back in the days when rap was first taking off MTV played videos from people like the Sugar hill gang and as time went on they played other up and comers like Fresh Prince, LL Cool J and Biz Markie. Im guessing your speaking out of ignorance on this subject and also once again trying to act like the 50s carried on into the 80's and 90s. And yes I know what BET is owned by a white guy and I watch comic view now and then(used to watch it like every day). Im not some ignorant white guy, im just as I said talking in the present not the past so you and many others wont like it. I think its perfectly fine that black people laught at white peole and the things we do. I dont think its fine that white people arnt provided the same option. Sounds like you think that African Americans are entitled to be asses because of their horrible pasts. I wont accept this. People should be treated equally regardless of the past. I suggest you accept the present state of things andleave the past in the past. Things arnt the same and you cant use the past as an excuse for poor behavior or false injustices anymore. It just sounds like a joke.

Some of you people need to get in touch with reality.. the reality is there is no such thing as equality in this world.. its easy for white people to sit there and not see what all the fuss is about when the majority of people in power are white.. its easy for them to moan about leaving the past in the past.. when they don't have to still deal with the same racism their ancestors had to go through the reason why black people keep bringing up the past is because ignorant fools like you want to forget it.. and ignore the fact that there is a problem today.. when the world changes and we no longer have to worry about racial slurs and hate crimes against our people.. our past will remain in the past.. until then it should keep being brought up in order to educate young people about the injustice of racism as for the topic at hand.. snoop and nas are not racists.. they only encourage pride in our race.. they do not and have never incited hatred against white people.. learn the definition of racism before you throw the word around.. also i have seen the video clip of 'these days' and it seems to me that everyone enjoyed seeing aaf performing.. you people are assuming too much from nothing

And ladeda its easier for some blacks to drudge up the past and act like its the present over accepting current facts. Its easier to act like everyone is a biggot or the majority are and are holding you back then accept the truth. Once again you dont have to be black to know about racism or see whats going on with equality in the world. You saying you do and some white people like me just dont get it is like me saying blacks have no say in it because their all going to overeact. Its just stupid. There are white people who will be blind biggots, there will be black people that are blind biggots. And yes the majority is still white and they hold the power but that doesnt mean things are horrible for blacks. Im sorry but your blidinding yoursself and trying to use your race as something its not. As iv pointed out nowdays plenty of white people will have a hard time because their skin color, yes its not in the same numbers as blacks but the scales are starting to tip close to equal when it comes to idiotic thingss done because of race. I think maybe you need to accept that your skin color isnt what you want to think it is. I doubt you will though since your attitude is a white boy like me cant know what he is talking about. The fact that you say ignorant fools like you want to ignore problems today shows your wrong and biased. I have admitted over and over to problems. Iv went so far as to say we still need AA. Thats hardly what some ignorant white boy blind to todays problems would say. That you say it though shows your just an ignorant human(*gasp* I called you human instead of by the color of your skin like you did me)who cant get past race. People like you are the reason there are problems with race still almost as much or as much as the idiotic racist whites. You both refuse to see things for what they are and work for a better future. You both cling to the color of your skin and treat others with a different color as ignorant. You both show ignorance isnt race exclusive.

Everybody keeps bringing up the WET thing. Ask yourself this, befire there was Michael Jackson MTV was WET. He was the first African-American to EVER be on MTV or VH1. In this was in 1985. Four years after MTV or WET was created. Then came company name BET then owned by a black man, who felt like we deserved thae same rights. Is that wrong? White people seem to think that black people want to be them and would have a problem with them having a network call WET. Sorry, but those days are over with. BET is owned by a white man, did you hear that "black people" were outraged? NO! Why did it take Michael Jackson and BET to make MTV play African American music? I understand that now they do play "our" music. But that doesn't change the past. Just because I'm Black and your White soesn't mean I know more about struggling than you do, but it means that I do relate to the kinds of struggles that African-Americans go through. That is something that you will never know. Our struggle is different from yours. That is a fact that will always remain. That is not a reason to dwell on the past either. But what you must realize is that the future is nothing is you forget about the past. How do you know where your going, if you don't know where you come from?

Well saying that there couldnt be a WET without blacks complaining is true and people just use it to make a point. But saying there should be a WET is just dumb. Go Greenly as I already said before BET was around African Americans got time on music stations if I recall correctly. Even if they didnt id say it has a hell of alot more to do with how big rock and especially hairbands and metal were in that period of time. There wernt many African American rockers in the mainstream. And in pop music the hip trendy types that MTV played I cant think of many either. Also not many people got MTV back then so how many do you think got BET? Saying that BET pressured MTV into putting more black artists on is a joke its like saying MTV better put on local bands to compete with public accesse stations. BET wasnt any influence on MTV probally till YEARS after when they had black artists on for years. And yes your AA so you will relate to "the struggle" better and I will never no how much. But just like being AA is a positive in these converations its a negative. Some people are BLIND because of their race and make things out to be much worse then what they are(like id say your trying to do with MTV and BET). And I dont think we should forget the past I think it should never be forgotten. But I dont think it needs to be a constant. I dont think you need to scribble on a headband my people were opprssed and walk around with it on all the damn time. I think the past should deffintly be rembered least we repeat it......but dont freaking cling to it.

MTV does not own BET. MTV iwas WET in the 80's. And that you have to admit. BET has helped WET in some ways. BET made them play urban music..not black music or spanish music. MTV realize it had to grow with the times as did BET. MTV played Jay-Z and the BET played N'SYNC. When you realy think about to say BET is a racist station would be calling MTV a racist station too. For 2 years TRL didnt play one rap song on rotation. And neither did 106 and Park. The point is that they've grown as companies. And as far as AAF, I thought it was funny as a person, black or white. But you have to respect the fact that other peole saw it as being disrespectful.

Without a doubt AAF was disrepsecful to the BET awards. The awards took place to honor people's work, and in no means did AAF have the right to disrupt it. However, people who do not feel this way are not racist but thought either the incident was funny, which was what AAF wished, or they posses slight jelousy that there is a BET where white people almost are restricted (which would include me). I find AAF to be respectable artists, much more than many rappers who speak of anger, money, and zealous sex, however, if anyone says AAF did not make a misjudgment in morality i would know that other factors are involved with there opinion (which might not be rasict)

If people would stop and think about it, and hopefully hard headed people will realize that this is stupid and cut it out so this world would be a better place for all of us. DAMN!

WOW- EVERYONE - GET A FREAKING GRIP!!! I read some of the comments until I realized they went on for-freaking-ever. I didn't finish reading everyone's comments but I read quite enough. You, know, almost every "Group", racial or ethnic has spent it's share of time in the barrel and it's no fun. My group? Well, over in Europe when they ran out of stuff to do they just checked the "Heeb-ee Guide" to see what Pogrom was on that night and went out and found some Jews to beat the crap out of or kill. But that wouldn't justify me oppressing anyone else today. What amazes me is when folks are able to break free of it and then try to do the same thing to other people. OK, you've got a group you don't like; you spend all your time sittting on top of the barrel they're stuck in. Great. Just realize that NEITHER of you are going anywhere until that changes. Think about it. That's all I have to say here. No further comments from this corner here. Peace, if that is at all possible.

BET is a tribute to all blacks but that don't mean, no other cultures can get involve because its a tribute right. Later on in thaosands of years people are going to be just one race, Thanx! and Peace out!

This video was right on the money. Lets face it, we all hate each other. Blacks, whites, asians, latins, etc. etc. etc. This video dives straight into the race issue and comes out on top. It shows maybe we all can get along. It is enlightening and a lot of fun to watch. Great job.

I just happened to come across this message board and I am quite apalled. Everyone is making such a big racial issue about something that was not meant to be racially offensive but a humorous video. I actually think that it is quite cool that they crashed the BET awards, its a start for racial cohesion. As for the big race issue, I believe that the problem everyone has is primarily STEREOTYPES. Once again STEREOTYPES. Even people that claim to not be racist, they still harbor certain stereotypes. The first step towards erasing the race lines is realizing that stereotypes are not truth. People have a tendency to believe that black people wear baggy clothes, listen to rap/r&b, and are subpar in many areas to other cultures. Also people tend to think that white people are rockheads who like to do crazy things like jackass stunts/ bungie jumping, the list goes on... My point is that we all need to dissolve these ideas gradually and come to terms that homo sapiens are not beings that can be categorized into certain racial groups. We are a very complex species and cannot be categorized by melanin amounts. Nor can we be categorized by where we grew up. Money or lack of it (whether black or white or green) is not an indicator of behavior, preferences, or attitudes about people. When eveyone is born, they are blank, they grow and shape their individual pesonalities from personal insight. In other words, the point that I want to get across to you all is that people should stop distinguishing people by race but by the person. Also theres no such thing as black or white music, black culture or white culture. Were all the same species but we have varying melanin levels. Every species has some type of variability, if we didnt then we would all be very boring. I hope that this message is listened to. It probably will not make any kind of difference. As for my race, its not important, im homo sapien, a primate, a mammal just like everyone else on this site. Ciao

People is gonna get tired of this crap beacause if your black you can parade around being proud that your black, but if your white and say your proud to be white your considered to be the head leader of the KKK...its just bull....then comes the job/employment crap omg i dont even wanna get started on this cuz so many blacks try to get the easy way out or try to sue over racsim even when its not there....ITS time to wake up and quit letting this crap happen cuz it only leads to more racism....Martin luther King would be ashamed of what this country has come to i mean even with the name bet its going against what he fought so hard for, he wanted to end segregation and this BET is just bitch slapping him in the face.

I think racism won't ever be gone, won't ever be done, won't ever be through. You can't really help that teeny weeny small part of you that thinks you're better than someone else. Whether you're from: Europe, Asia, Austraila, North America, etc. It's what you were born to, so wouldn't you automatically think that your color is the best. It is very different being born white, black, brown, etc. You only care about what color you are and to you, you are the best.

When ODB crashed the grammy's it was hilarious. You guys need to lighten up. I mean it's humor. You gotta take things like that lightly or you're gonna wake up one day an old person who hates everyone and everything including themselves. It was a joke. Black people make fun of white people and i find it hilarious. Dave Chappelle, Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphey have been doing it for years and i can't get enough of it. It's the same with this concert. It's just a jab that you people need to laugh at instead of seriously discuss

This is one of the longest topic post I have ever seen so l guess there's no harm in throwing in my two cents. Just a few points first I don't believe AAF is racist for what they did, it was a publicity stunt and it worked very well if people are still talking about it even now. Having said that I think if G-Unit or the Cash Money Crew had did that to the Country Music Awards a lot of people would have a different opinion. And my second point is on the posting there where comments made about "Egyptians" and "Blacks". Please review your history and Nas's lyrics carefully. When NAS refers to "Kush Timbuktu" he's refering to much of what is now Sudan, which was known as Nubia, or the Kingdom of Kush. The Nubians ruled Egypt for a period as well as the Egypt ruling over Nubia for time. For instance the 25th dynasty of Egypt was ruled by native nubian King Taharqa as Pharaoh. Even when Ancient Egypt was controlled by outsiders, men and women of nubian decent continued to hold high positions within the Egyptian empire. So yes there where "Black" Egyptians. But as Nas' was refering to Kush here are some facts abut that Kindom. Archeological findings have shown that the founding of Kerma (first capital of Nubia) dates back to 5,000 B.C.. The Nubian Empire pre-dates Egyptian civilization and its lifespan outlasted Egypt, Greece and Rome combined. The Kingdom of Kush, with its alphabet, commerce and architectural triumphs was the equal of its ancient world counterparts. As royal tombs for their rulers they built pyramids which numbered more than all those of Egypt.

This may be of the current path but I would like to respond to the comment that the term white boy is not as offensive as the word nigger. I'll give you a little example. I play basketball sometimes on a court where there are usually about 40 guys and at least 37 are black. Well, I'm pretty good and in a particular game I blocked this guy's shot 3 times and stole the ball from him and dunked at the other end. The next time I drove the lane he fouled me hard and when I called it he called me a "pussy white boy." We got into an argument and he and his boys kept calling me "white boy" telling me it's on nowand that they were going to show me that white boys can't play with black men. It was a gang mentality. I found his comments incredibly offensive. Had I not feared getting ganged on by 5 guys I would have thrown a right cross in his face. It was all I could do not to. Don't tell me it's not as offensive. I'm sick of every other race claiming white people are racist. Yes, there are racist white people and yeah, some of their comments can be viewed as racially offensive. But it's not like it doesn't work both ways. For example, P. Diddy on Conan O'brien said "I'm going to get me a white butler." He later followed that up with "This America baby, it's our turn", meaning black people's and implying not white people's. Did anybody bring that up in the media? Is there a W.E.T.? Chris Rock had a whole HBO special where he blames the government and rich white people for black peoples problems. I'm not rich, can I blame the government too? Why can't there be? If you're white it's like stepping on eggshells. Some people from other races and the media are just dying to pounce on you for anything you do while some of them take all of the liberties they want with their comments and actions. I'm white, I'm proud, I'm not racist, and I will not let the media create some mass mind that we should have some kind of guilt. I'm just trying to do the best I can for myself and the ones I love. I suggest everybody else do the same.

Are u trying 2 tell me that if a white guy fouled you and called you a name u would label him as being a gang banger...no u wouldnt. Also, there was a need for BEt...im not sure if you know this...but once upon a time ago, MtV did not alow for balck artists 2 be on their channel...hmmm didnt know that little fact eh? also, even though blacks are featured on MtV nowadyas, they are still underrepresented in the running of the MtV station, and are underrepresented in the reality shows and shows featured on ur MtV channel. that was just a stupid comment about whether there is a WEt channel...there's no need 4 it...whites are featured everywhere...they are the majority...plus you all put down other groups of people for years...oppressing them and keeping them down, so now u have the audacity 2 complain about one channel that celebrates african americans and their frredom 2 have a station that features their talents and opinions? dont u think vhey deserve it? especially after recieving the shortest month of the year to celebrate their history thav is often left out of mainstream textbooks? u'll prob say well there isnt a month for white history...after this comment u should be able to guess my response ;)

Some of you guys really need to learn your history. I think the time of BET being an asset to the awareness of black culture has passed. To me it is UNNECESSARY segregation at this point. What black artists can't compete against other artists? Are we somehow inferior and need to be separated or we don't get recognized for our achievements? It's funny but you dont see that in sports. I'd guess that the NBA and the NFL are predominantly black but there's no white mvp/black mvp. And what on BET is a 'celebration' of our unique 'culture' these days? Hating cops? thinking everyone else is racist? Being from the hood and having a chip on your shoulder? Acting like a gangsta or talking like an illiterate? Too many people want what they didn't bother to earn. Rich kids who think their parents money makes them somebody, minorities who are all too eager to claim prejudice and oppression, almost everyone.

I don't go around hating on British people. I had nothing to do with the slave trade...neither did you, shut up. We're all equal now. I shouldn't have to give you any special treatment because some white people not even related to me oppressed some black people not related to you. Why should we have to walk on egg shells and prance around certain words in fear of offending? But cracker is an acceptable term to refer to white people as? Get rid of the double standards. AAF had just as much right to be there as anyone else. If you think differently, you're a racist. Simple as that...you are bringing something back into play called segregation... But the rules are reversed. Why shouldn't these guys being whit e be able to be at BET? look at you... Your ancestors fought so hard to end segregation...now you are reinstating it...how sad
