For decades I have never questioned that it is "Ennio killed the radio star". Only as an adult, however, "Ennio" also made sense because, surely, The Buggles meant to accuse Ennio Morricone - as an incredibly successful composer of film music - of having killed the radio star. Not too far off the point of the real meaning.
