Story about this misheard lyric by: Slightly Strange Al: I was much younger, about 5 or 6, and I heard this song on a TV commercial for a disco music compilation album. The misheard lyrics are a rough approximation of what I heard. Come to think of it, my 5-or-6-year-old self didn't hear actual lyrics, but rather a vocalization along the lines of "A-doo-duh-stee-a-duh..."
"Helen Wheels," Wings
Misheard Lyrics:
Hell on, hell on, hell on
Hell On Wheels
Original Lyrics:
Helen, Helen, Helen
Helen Wheels
Story about this misheard lyric by: Scotty Saigon: I was in elementary school from 1971-1977. During especially the early part of those I've known this guy with a kids-size cammy Army jacket, and it had a patch with a tank pictured on it. The caption said "Hell On Wheels". Funny thing, I don't recall any teachers complaining about that "H" word being worn, even if the Vietnam War was happening.
