"Drift Away," Dobie Gray
Misheard Lyrics:
Give me The Beach Boys and free my soul.
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away.
Beginning to fact that I'm wasting time.
I don't understand the things I do.
The world outside looks so unkind.
I'm counting on you to carry me through.
Original Lyrics:
Give me the beat boys and free my soul.
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away.
Beginning to think that I'm wasting time.
I don't understand the things I do.
The world outside looks so unkind.
I'm counting on you to carry me through.
Story about this misheard lyric by: Wisnu Aji: I wondering that Dobie mistakenly refering the Californian rock band, The Beach Boys, in choruses. However, Dobie correctly wrote the song "Drift Away" about music rather than The Beach Boys as he sing: "Give me the beat boys and free my soul. I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away." About this song: Dobie version of "Drift Away" was not the original, the first version of "Drift Away" that written by Mentor Williams was recorded by John Henry Kurtz on his album, "Reunion", released in 1972. Later, in 1973, Dobie covered this song on his album also titled "Drift Away". Dobie version of "Drift Away" was faring better where it reaching #5 on Billboard's Pop Chart and #7 on Canada chart. Entering Dobie into one-hit wonder fame and later "Drift Away" was covered by many artists including Uncle Kracker. Uncle Kracker version was featuring Dobie himself and also entering Uncle Kracker into one-hit wonder fame where it reaching #9 on Billboard's Pop Chart and #25 on New Zealand chart.
"My Eyes Adored You," Frankie Valli
Misheard Lyrics:
My eyes of Georgia.
Original Lyrics:
My eyes adored you.
Story about this misheard lyric by: Bily: I'm pretty sure Nolan and Crewe's original draft of this song was "My eyes of Georgia." That makes it a bit freaky that so many have misheard the original lyrics.
"Rhinestone Cowboy," Glen Campbell
Misheard Lyrics:
Like a limestone cowboy
Original Lyrics:
Like a rhinestone cowboy
Story about this misheard lyric by: Cody Finke: R.I.P. Glen Campbell (1936-2017)
"Rock Me," Great White
Misheard Lyrics:
There is nothing left to lose.
But next belongs to you.
Original Lyrics:
There is nothing left to do.
But make sweet love to you.
Story about this misheard lyric by: Wisnu Aji: It makes no sense at all for the lyrical content of this song. Currently, I'm not working again to write some pages on my book. But, finally, I love this band! About this song: "Rock Me" is track #3 on their third studio album, "Once Bitten", released on 29 June 1987. It was written by Mark Kendall, Jack Russell, Alan Niven, and Michael Lardie. It reaching #60 on Billboard's Pop Chart. Making them their first greatest hit single before entering them into one-hit wonder fame with their follow-up single, "Once Bitten, Twice Shy", released in 1989. "Rock Me" was a breakout hit for the band, and still receives significant airplay on classic rock radio. The original version lasting at over 7 minutes, with the radio and video versions being trimmed down to between 3 and 5 minutes. Many of the lyrics to the edited versions are different from the original, though the music track remains the same.
"Heathens," Twenty One Pilots
Misheard Lyrics:
All my friends are eatin' steak and snow
or
All my friends are eatin' steak in snow
or
All my friends are eatin' snake and slow
And:
You don't know the hat of Ziccafoose
Original Lyrics:
All my friends are heathens; take it slow.
And:
You don't know the half of the abuse.
Story about this misheard lyric by: Eric: They play this during stress drills at Krav Maga, a lot. So my mind is not exactly on the lyrics. Overhear REALLY weird things from this song.
