a parody of "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell
R.I.P. Alan Colmes, you were a good man in a bad place (Fox News Channel), no doubt you're in a better place now. This was my 2006 take on Alan's sad lot on "Hannity & Colmes", crafted out of one of the greatest songs of all time. Thank you Larry Weiss for gifting the world with "Rhinestone Cowboy" and thank you Glen Campbell for putting RC and so many other songs in our hearts and heads forever. Peace and love to you and yours.

Misheard Lyrics Stories -> Latest Entries

"Baby One More Time," Britney Spears
Misheard Lyrics:
'Cause I need to oh oh whoopy cars
Original Lyrics:
'Cause I need to know now oh because..
Story about this misheard lyric by: Adrian: I asked my daughter what a "whoopy car" was (thought it might be some teenage slang). So we had to wait until Britney came back on the radio and I could say "That's the song!"
"Sedna," Heather Dale
Misheard Lyrics:
Sedna on the Dee,
The cold forgotten Dee.
Original Lyrics:
Sedna roamed the deep,
The cold forgotten deep.
Story about this misheard lyric by: Karen Smith: I saw a posting on amiright.com for Heather Dale. Not knowing anything about her, I checked her artist summary on amiright.com, where I saw only anagrams of her name posted. Since that told me scarcely anything about her, I looked up more about her, including her songs, elsewhere. The song Sedna caught my interest, as I wondered if it were connected with the dwarf planet of that name. I played it on youtube, finding the lyrics very hard to understand, so I still didn't know for sure what the song is about. But what little I could make out seems to be more about the Inuit goddess for whom the dwarf planet is named than for the dwarf planet. So I checked a lyrics site to see if I could find out the real lyrics. Somebody heard them well enough to present a coherent version on that site, revealing the above correction to my mishearing. Furthermore, they tell a story common to the various versions of the mythology of Sedna, and make no reference to the dwarf planet named for her.
"Chained to the Rhythm," Katy Perry
Misheard Lyrics:
Dance dance dance to the Mr Show
Original Lyrics:
Dance dance dance to the distortion
Story about this misheard lyric by: Matt Flohr: I get a chuckle every time I think about people somehow dancing to that old David Cross and Bob Oedenkirk comedy show.
"Ghostbusters," Ray Parker Jr.
Misheard Lyrics:
If there's somethin' strange
In your neighborhood,
Who ya gonna call? ... You're disgusting!
Original Lyrics:
If there's somethin' strange
In your neighborhood,
Who ya gonna call? Ghostbusters!
Story about this misheard lyric by: Adrian: Joining in the chorus for weeks with "Who ya gonna call? You're disgustin'" before my daughter corrected me.
"The Carnival Is Over," The Seekers
Misheard Lyrics:
Far below and far on high
Original Lyrics:
For Pierrot and Columbine
Story about this misheard lyric by: Ken Gray: I heard (and sang) this song as a kid and for the next 45 years thought these were the lyrics! Oh well, I still prefer mine!
"What Can I Do?," Smokie
Misheard Lyrics:
Why can't I do?
Original Lyrics:
What can I do?
Story about this misheard lyric by: Wisnu Aji: It suggested that the title song is a similar title song to the modern song, "Why Can't I?", by Liz Phair. I heard this song on the radio on early Saturday ago at my home when the singer singing it with this suggestion.
"The Hustle," Van McCoy
Misheard Lyrics:
Do the Hot Dog!
Original Lyrics:
Do the Hustle!
Story about this misheard lyric by: Kenneth Hayes: My first wife was convinced that was what was being said.
